If you need extra weight up front, I did with my Ultimate, Whiterose makes a nice nose weight for the DA:

You probably already know about it. Not sure how useful or not it would be for you for IMAC but it adds to the rotational mass.

I purchased one for my DA 120 when i got my 4.5" wheels in the fall and after talking to the DA guys they said you can use it but it will take longer to spool up to full RPM and I'm not really a believer in them .

Years ago when flying nitro models i remember that we sometime put a threaded nose weight onto the engines usually a 40 size when there wasn't space to add leads weights . We did notice a decrease i performance .

I'm just tring to get my plane setup as close to iMac settings so i can start learn all the sequences and maneuvers for flying the Imtermediate . Heck i even order a Melijki 27x12th prop for it to see the difference between it and the Beila 27x12 prop .

I appericate the help

Rusty I hear you.

As I have mentioned it adds to the rotational mass so I was not sure, being only a fly by my pants flyer, if it would helps or go against the need for IMAC.

I was just like that , go up do some manuvers and just have some fun but now i need someting to challenging when i fly .I'm finding there is a lot variables in getting the manuvers down so that it becomes like riding a bike , a lot of practicing in alot of different flight conditions.

Coming from a Pylon racing background in the 80-90's and racing alot , i have found it's best to keep everything on the motor balanced and as light as possible to reduce power from the engine ...

Hopefully you won't have to adde weight like i had too , those pipes do add alot of weight towards the tail .
yOu are correct. The tuned pipes add to tail weight.

Well, still some more work needed upfront, but I will be sure to report back the progress of the CG as things get closer.

I hope to not add any dead weight,

Hello Eric, yes, those are great. Vern comes up with some great products.

I have used those before on an airplane with a DA 170, and it makes a big difference, in that, by adding that weight at the nose of the airplane. less weight is required. I am totally against balancing the airplane with dead weight. SO this is how I am mindful of this, as I build.

You need to check out Vern's back of firewall mount/load dispersor.
It is really neat, basically, he has made a square plate, with threads, so you can tighten it and there is a larger surface area to compress the wood, and hopefully be less deformation of the plywood.

Painting the top of the cowl.

I am using 3m Vinyl tape.
If anyone is interested, I can post the link, but this tape is the bomb!

Works great, only problem is, it is crazy expensive.

But other than that, if you apply it carefully, you will not get any bleed thru.
and, when it comes off, it does so leaving no adhesive behind, so it leaves the surface nice and clean.

I have posted the pictures after each successive coat of paint.

A total of 3 coats were used.

Like they tell me at my local auto paint store: 3M stands for "Much More Money".
But their fine line tape works real good...

I use a finger nail tool for burnishing the edges, makes the fine line tape even better.

Have we ever steered your wrong? A plane looking that good can do nothing but fly FANTASTIC!!!!!!

We go away for a couple days and all this new information pops up. I really like the covering of the hinge line first. All these years I never figured that one out.

Balance wise battery location should take care of the CG.

The Extra 330LX has a 26.3 ft. wingspan. The original RC planes were actually 33%, you can PM me and I will tell you how I know.

Remember 35 and 40% are the considered the class size of the plane and may not be the actual specs. This is on reason we went to using the metric sizes of our designs. As Tom has explained that is how we design our planes.

With the tuned pipes you are going to have to keep everything pretty much towards the front of the plane. I would suggest having the batteries in the slots at the front of the tank floor. You may end up having to add nose weight with the pipes. I know with out cans if can be done but yeah you are moving more weight towards the rear due to the length of the pipes.

A little extra clear on the cowl won't hurt

The plane is looking great!

Just read about a guy who is selling his Dalton/Pau 300ml Extra . From his review using a DA 170 with Re3 pipes he had to add three pounds of weight to get it fly properly in the iMac envelop .
I was surprised about the amount of weight but it seems that Dalton/Pau is having CG issues when using pipes instead of Cannisters . Yours will probably fine with the CG balancing .

Like the red on the cowl what colour is it , your just a building machine ..

Beautiful paint job Cam. Don't let him fool you about his flying ability. He has gone from IMAC Basic class to Advanced class in four years, and is a certified judging instructor.
