Cactus Classic April 8th and 9th

SW District pilots.....
The Cactus Classic is around the corner, April 8th and 9th, out at Apache Junction! I checked the pilot roster this morning and I'm counting 34 pilots already signed up.

We have an opportunity to do a mini Judging School on Friday, April 7th from 10am to Noon (no charge). Dean Bird will be on hand to instruct and Team Kaos will provide grilled burgers to the participants for lunch. If you didn't get a chance to attend the Hemet judging school, come out on Friday April 7th!

Kim.. safe travels as you make you way out to the Toledo Show. Please post pics on Facebook so those of here can preview the cool stuff!

Dave... always good to have you on the flight line. Gonna do my best to whip the little 103" Extra330 into IMAC form for the Intermediate bracket. A few pilots suggested I talk with you about the damage to my Carden 118!

I'm sorry to learn of the Carden loss. Chuck sent a picture and asked if it could be repaired. It can be repaired but at what cost? Looks like the fuse and rt wing are both badly damaged that in my opinion is best to get another kit. There are some out there that can repair it. I'm buried with a dual Pro build now and have another Pro and a 126" Carden to build rt after these.

Dave thanks for the inputs.... yea, I think the better plan is to have a farewell ceremony for the plane and look for an opportunity to build or buy a replacement.

work helps pay for the addictive hobbies.. I completely understand. On occasion, I'll sell plasma so I can buy redline oil for my baby!

We had 32 pilots enjoy good weather on Saturday and great weather on Sunday.

Crazy good competition happening at this event. We had a 32 pilot contest with 4 pilots in Basic, 8 pilots in Sportsman, 10 pilots in Intermediate, 5 pilots in Advanced, and 5 pilots in Unlimited.

The first day of Intermediate had four different pilots winning the four sequences. At the end of day one the difference between 1st place and 9th place was only 100 normalized points out of 3,000. Everyone was in it. The winner came from 8th place on Saturday to 1st place on Sunday.

The Advanced class had 3 different pilots win sequences on Saturday. At the end of day one the difference between 1st and 3rd place was only 30 normalized points out of 3,000. The Unknown round didn't separate anyone with the top 4 pilots scoring between 972 and 1,000. Four pilots were in it going into the last Known round. As the contest report points out, "The tightest competition was for 3rd place in the Advanced class, with only 1.097 points difference between Jim McCall and Craig Guest."

The top two Unlimited pilots split the Known sequences in all three Known rounds.

Great stuff everyone!! The final results have already been posted. Thanks to our webmaster for making it happen.
