My Ultra Hots

I built mine around 1990. First version with Zenoah G38, rebuilt after a crash few years later with a Zenoah G62 and flaps.

I have used it as a glider tug for up to 5 meter wingspan sailplanes. See pictures.

I have not used it since the year 2000, but plan to fly it next summer after some repairs.

Tha small cute girl is my granddaughter Hekla some 5 years ago.

Regards

Agust, Iceland

The Hots, Super Hots, and Ultra Hots. Flew them all but never owned one. They were the Ferrari of fun fly planes back in the day. The Super Hots was the first plane I ever hovered, back before anyone ever heard of 3D. I had a lot of fun flying everyone's.

Super Hotts and a Ultra, fun airplanes. I had the Giant also covered the same scheme. My Ultra Hotts had a Quadra 42 in it.

A 50 or 100cc version would be fun! I always wanted one, but never got around to it. Heck, even a mid size electric would be fun.

RC Modeler magazine handled the plans back ythen. You might be able to find them in the AMA plans archives since the designers wife sold the plans and rights off when they were separated. I think Rich Uravitch was the designer.

If you want to build one for 3d you will have to increase the percentage of the elevators and ailerons. The original concept was for "fun fly" activities which fell just a hair short of what was needed for dedicated 3d. Great little airplanes and easy to build. Consider putting the fuel tank inside a wing to maintain a constant C/G.

I recently re-acquired an Ultra Hots that I had owned a while back. It is powered with a Zenoah G-38 with a spring starter, which hauls it around nicely. While it is no beauty queen, it is not a hangar queen either and gets flown often!

For those who may be interested in building an Ultra Hots, here ya go!

In the late 80's all I flew was the .60 Super Hots, had 3 or 4 of them. I modded all of mine a bit. Pull-Pull on the rudder, 2 aileron servos and I ran a Hanno Special long stroke .61 on the red anodized Hanno pipe. She had about a 400degree per second roll rate and was always impressive in the air. I have an Ultra Hots short kit on the shelf i had cut some years back, never decided to build it. Maybe I will one of these days...
