This is the dumbest argument ever....... Forest are thinned down all the time to mitigate against forest fires Randy. Yes, maybe they should go back and chop up the wood to use for firewood for a club BBQ. I think you guys are a bit over the top with this one.

+1, over the top, folks need to stay in there lane. In some areas trees are very plentiful and in some cases need thing or for various reasons in the way.
Perhaps it could have been done a better way, but retrieving the remains to perhaps reuse was far better than littering!

They tried that at Joe Nall up on the main flight line - they widened it But people still managed to put a few in the trees every year

OK flame me again.....

I filtered a mix match plane through a tree that didn't like pulling out of a dive at high speeds. Engine and gas tank found in the middle of a hay field. A friend climbed the tree and retrieved the fuse but the wing was high in small limbs. He went to the house and brought back a shot gun..."BOOOM" wing fluttered to the ground full of tiny holes. LOL

For me it comes down to who owns the land/trees and did they have permission or not? It would have been nice to see them at least cut the trees up for firewood rather than leaving them to rot or turn into potential fuel for a wild fire. But that is a secondary point.

Somebody owned those trees, and if they did not have permission to cut them down then they made a poor choice in doing so.
