Anyone seen the BattSignal? No reason you couldn't hook that up across the Rx bus to monitor the voltage. Its got an LED that flashes when there is a problem.

(disclaimer: I have never used one of these)

the rx module cuttoff should be augmented with its own power supply....onboard.

I'm curious to know if this was the first flight on the plane.

I would not think so, AMA General Safety Code #4.

From what I have read here, and on other forums. No. Cell phone do not operate on 2.4G

Re: QQ's SEFF crash----what happened

OK GUYS,

Yeah this is getting boring.

Will some of you just help us with suggestions on what a better power system setup might be. I'd rather read about how to learn from the mistakes made with this power setup. Let's leave the pilot and the aircraft and radio alone.

Some of us have 33% aircraft with eight 8611's all around running on one 4800mah batt with one regulator and two JR type leads. Are we also straining our power systems?

Thanks

8A pack -> ~7A leads -> 9A reg = (you guessed it) less than 7 continuous Amps

How many amps (average) do 8 JR 8611'a draw? How much wood does a wood chuck chuck? We may never know, till we measure.

Seriously though, we should learn something from this. We can't base our power systems on folklore and dogma. We should make honest estimates of our systems current draw and take measurements to confirm this. I suspect measurements are going to vary widely from airplane to airplane and even pilot to pilot.

Get one of these and take it for a ride in your plane. It will pay for itself very quickly. .

It has been measured many times - about 1.8 Amps average on a 35% plane. The average value is approximately the same with one servo or 3 servos per surface. The same load just gets distributed along more servos.

If you want to measure YOUR plane, simply charge it up fully, fly for 60 minutes (four flights) and recharge.

If your charger declares 1900 mAh output into the battery, you can make a pretty accurate assumption that your plane consumes 1.9Amps on average.

Now a peak load is a different story, but that only happens for short periods of time. Most of the stuff people put in their planes is WAY over engineered. Unfortunately, it takes one iffy component in the chain and all hell breaks loose.

Another thing to consider - Futaba receivers put throttle into failsafe at 3.6 Volts. When is the last time you've seen that happen ? I've had it happen once. 11th flight on 40%, right during snap roll.

Landed right away and surfaces one half of the plane started drooping down 10 seconds later.

According to Horizons' claims that power systems are not good enough, we should see Futabas cutting their throttles left and right all the time.

Re: QQ's SEFF crash----what happened

Hi guys

Downloading the video now, but sais 1.20h left I need faster internet!

I know that the new 2.4Ghz is meant to be frequency proof. Well... it looks not. At my flying field (spain) there are 2 guys who have started flying their electric models by use of a camera and special tv glasses. The problem:
Model: 35 Mhz
Glasses: 2.4Ghz
They have had a Spectrum 6 at the field, and with both at the same time, model got shot down and the glasses, got 1 small line across one part of the screen
So that has got me very worried for when my Jr 12X arrives.
I know it is a very long shot, but these glasses have quite a good range, could it be that it was caused by interfearence, not from another Jr9303, or a spectrum, but from these glasses? What do these Rx's do in case of interfearance, as normally there is no way of testing as the tx doesnt turn on¿?
Any thoughts

Also, slightly off topic but still within the battery drop out:
I have been reading all the posts, and am slightly worried, so I wondered if you coul dhelp me with something:
I have on order the new Jr 12X on 2.4Ghz, and after reading this I am slightly worried as in my new Krill 33% Katana I have 8 Jr 8711 servos, they will go through an Emcotec Mini 5, and 2 Powerbox 1500mAh Lipos.
After reading how alot of you are going to connect a "separate battery for the Rx, and then the 2 for the servos" How do you intend on connecting the Rx battery?

I am also planning on using 2 rx's through the new powerbox RRS, again, how can I connect a battery soully for the rx?

Many thanks
Martin

To throw a different twist on this thread, QQ always does his torque rolls so close he could stick out his tounge and lick the wings. Why is he so far away this time?
