Re: New Guy needs help choosing a plane

I have the old Wild Hare 260 and it's one of the best flying planes that i've flown (i've flown ALOT of planes lol). It's also been "stress tested" .

Damn, I can't believe that twice in one lifetime I have to agree with T Bob. I don't think you will regret it if you went with an Extreme Flight over the other. Nothing personal. Just, in my opinion, a better design and better flying plane. The WHs are ok but the EF is damn good.

I have the WildHare Edge 540T V2 and the plane rocks. Not a bad habit in it.

Now I gotta ask, what does it cost to get one of these in the air, aside from the obvious airframe and engine costs.

Does a 100cc 105" plane have similar servo requirements to a 50cc 88" plane?

Any hidden costs one wouldn't normally expect?

You can go here to see what extra things you need to do for a gasser.

https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...s-gassers.html

With the new HD servos coming out and Tom's price on them you can really put this together as a fairly inexpensive plane.

It kind of depends on what you start with. If you start with 5 x 7955 servos on a 50cc plane, then servo costs (on a Wild Hare 100cc plane) will stay the same. Our planes work fine on 5 very good servos.

If you were to start out with 5 HD 9150s, I'd say buy one more 9150 and a 7955. Move the one from the rudder to the second aileron servo, put the new one on the other wing and put the 7955 on the rudder. So you'd be adding about $150 in servo costs. A single 9150 for each aileron is probably not reasonable on a plane that large.

The plane/engine setup is about $500 more if you use a DLE-111 or similar engine. Our package price for 50cc planes is about $1,000 and for 100cc planes it's about $1,500.

Most of the other stuff is about the same, maybe another $100 for miscellaneous stuff.

So figure the difference is $750 between 50cc and 100cc.

All these numbers are approximate but will not vary much. Allow another $50 for shipping too.

Hey Dood,

If you're not planning on using the rudder, why put so much thought into this purchase anyway? Just get yourself a Sig Kadet and fly it on 3 channels. Make it a Kadet Sr if you want something bigger.

That's why I sent you my build threads, it's in it. The 50cc plane will be $1300-$2000 depending on how you build it. Look on the front page of my Affordable way thread, should help. Good luck..

Of course I plan on using the rudder
I plan on 3D'ing the hell out of this thing.
I'd get bored flying circuits

I NEED a 3D airplane.

That post isn't really for you guys as it is the guys I've met at the fields.

The "both thumbs to fly" line is a joke.
I think it's funny how they all tell me, "Oh, you can't just get a high powered 3D airplane and think you can fly it, you need to start with a trainer, then we need to buddy box you. It could be weeks or months before you're ready to fly solo..."

And they say this while flying and drinking their morning coffee at the same time!

I'm not just talking about the senile retired folk, either. These are middle 30's, younger 40's guys who say this stuff.

The hardest part about flying an airplane is to be able to control and/ or recover from any orientation in the sky. It doesn't require an airplane for someone to learn orientation of a model aircraft.

It doesn't hurt that I've logged hundreds of hours on computer flight simulators, either.

Re: New Guy needs help choosing a plane

Yep, from a 40 yr old i suggested maybe flying something less expensive to start and i fly every opportunity available, sim is good for learning the sticks but zero like flying.

I fly as well as my thumbs let me, its funny we have heli guys at our field who struggle to fly planes well so the jump may not be as easy as you think, but then again you are past the learning stage as you tell us all.

You may find the hard part is flying a $2-3500 plane about, but then again maybe thats not a consideration.

Im going to pass this nougat of information on as i guess thats where the other coffee drinkers are going wrong. I guess the setup, tuning, trimming and landing bits are easiest of all compared to flying around!!

Its been on here before except the guy wanted to move from a trainer to a 100cc plane, but he had good local help if my senile memory serves me right.

Ive only been flying 3 years myself so am no expert but fly QQ 86, GP 81 (bad weather throw about) and a QQ python, i do circuits and anything that makes me fly better, and a fliton 330 for in the park so i can fly as often as possible and i have bashed a lot of models we all do..

Can you post some video of 3D flight from day one Im excited to see your results!!

https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...new-plane.html

I genuinely wish you well and hope you listen to the good advice others have offered and taken the time to reply, please! also get the model well checked beofre you go and fly.........

Im off for more coffee and maybe a bun!!

Get the bigger WH Edge and put a DA 85 on it.. My buddy Gilbert had one and it was awesome! Plenty - o - power and flew like it was full of helium..

Or if you want to go 50cc... EF Yak in russian thunder theme... (then sell it to me cheap)

Re: New Guy needs help choosing a plane

Id go ef yak or extra big floaty and fun, never had any experience of wildhare so cant comment, but any modern plane should be good to go bang a DA or cheap motor in and fly the pants of it.

Russian thunder is one of the nicest shemes about and it's a yak/////

"Wild Hare planes and Extreme Flight planes are made in the same factory by the same people from the same materials"

Whoa there Tom good buddy, this statement is 100% false! Don't know what knd of skewed info your factory is feeding you but you might better take a trip to China and have a look around your factory. I can assure you and everyone else here that your planes are not built at my factory!
I visit my factory for several weeks each year, and am leaving Monday for another 3 week stay. I am very aware of the other companies that my factory manufactures for, and Wild Hare isn't one of them.
