Flipping Posterboard Stencils?
Hi Guys,
Been reading this thread from the beginning and I'm through to page 171. I'm now starting my first airbrush attempt on a foamie. One thing I've not come across so far is whether it's OK to flip the posterboard stencil over and use the other side. Any problems doing this? Also, the posterboard has curled after the Createx had dried. Should I just roll it the opposite direction to make it flat? Any help would be appreciated! Note: My first shot of Createx was on the bottom of the wing. It was a disaster. Horrible spitting with the un-thinned paint. After thoroughly checking the airbrush, and finding nothing wrong, I took it apart for cleaning. This revealed the problem. Paint chunks from a NEW bottle of paint, about the size of a pin head. There were dozens of them and I was furious. After researching online, I realized this was normal and the paint has to be strained before every use. This is with every brand of acrylic paint. Lesson learned!!!! |

Flattening poster board is no problem, I start by spraying the shiny side first with the 3m spray and leaving the paper side up. the paper side absorbs the paint alittle better and wont leave a residue when you flip sides. I have never had any problems like that with createx, that must be a fluke. Ive been using createx paints for atleast 5 years now, and I havnt noticed that problem. I am doing 2 planes with the same posterboard stencil, This will be a first. usually I throw them away after the first plane but I want to see how they last with 2 planes worth of paint.

Thanks Mike! I rushed it like crazy toward the end, but I had to see how the colors worked. One of these days, I'll mark on the calendar a day to spend entirely on a big portrait like this. It was a fun paint job to do. Im tempted to order black depron and do something like this on a foamy!

Well, you see, I actually paint anyones foamies. I have people send me other brand foamies. My painting is separate in that sense. For TAS, I paint around 4 or 5 and put them all up for sale. If someone likes a certain scheme, they can buy it. This way I can control the work flow of paint jobs. My cnc machine for tas foamies is very limited with foams, and depron cuts really well. Epp has a horrible effect with my machine. If all goes well with sales before January, I will be building my new cnc router tablewhich has been in the works for quite some time. Been a bitbusy painting and prepping for the AMA expo and having a blast doing it!
