Earle,

I was cruising your links and saw that you won the 1988 International Aerobatics Championship in Unlimited with full size planes - That's quite the accomplishment. Can't imagine anything making you nervous after that!

That is something I noticed too. Maybe he's sandbagging on us and will show us all how it's done.

Ha...well all I can say is (except for the physical abuse) sitting INSIDE the plane is MUCH easier than standing on the ground outside of it. I have been humbled by the difficulty of flying precision RC aerobatics.

I got into RC a couple of years ago, but only recently staring thinking about IMAC flying. At first I thought with my background I'd surely be able to fly Advanced....NOT. It has taken some time just get through the Sportsman without screwing something up.

And as far as nerves go....I had'em in IAC too!

I am sure I will be on the zero train as well! I got 2 flights in on Mark's plane and thought I would have time on Friday to practice with it. That damn rain is going to screw that up. Atleast it's raining the last 2 days and tomorrow instead of on the weekend!

Talk to Matt Chapman, he'll pretty much say the exact same thing you just did. I know he used to be a member of the field we are flying at this weekend. I know he moved south (I think) a year or so ago.

I spoke to him once a few years ago when I flew in the many local events in IAC in Fl in the late eighties to mid nineties. I may have even run into you a time or two at Sun & Fun. I could be found mainly trolling around Michael's Cap or Patty's Extra at that flyin and drooling heavily.

Yeah...Matt's a good friend of ours. He introduced me to my wife (of 20 years now). He & I were also fierce competitors in Unlimited, until I quit in 1992. Matt, of course, went on to make the US Team several times, placing 4th in one of the World Championships before retiring from competitive aerobatics. We had a ton of fun flying contests and several airshows together.

Here's a shot of me paying homage to him at an airshow last year.

Yea, I think you and Matt should get back in it and go run around the world with the RedBull crowd.

Now talk about extreme stuff, full power at 50 feet going through pylons that are barely wide enough to get your wingspan through, then all 9 g turns for about 3 minutes.

You've got to have your balls screwed on tight for that type of flying . Or some bad wiring in your head . Not sure which

Think we hijacked this thread enough

Yep...back to the contest. Can't wait to try this out. I'll be begging for a good caller....John Banks said he'd help...if he gets down from CT.

Assuming the rains move through during the day tomorrow, anyone know how late the field will be open for practice?

Typically you can't fly after 6 Friday and Sat. However we waived that for the contest last year, I am sure the same will happen this year. The only real issue is everyone has to be out at dust or close to because it is the State Park. We have been known to push that a little as well with little issue.
