I know that Bill Vargas is using the 215 on his Carf 330sc and likes it.Personally, the DA200 is likely your best bet for smooth airframe and servo saving monster power.
very interesting!

bigger is not always better

My DA 215 runs AWSOME!

I did have to tinker a wee bit with the carb but after that,,, it just goes. I made my own 6in. headers out of the DIY kit from DA and use JMB K10108 Cans (These are 30mm inlet dia and measure just about the same as the MTW130 cans). Its just as smooth as a 150 maybe a wee bit better but that will depend on how well you balanced your prop Fuel consumption is great, My timer is set at 14mins from power on to start and land with plenty of reserve in the 64oz. Ocean Spray tank. A falcon 33x11W prop is what I am using now. Started with a 32x11w and it was to small for my taste,,, made my 44lb compy feel like it was on steroids and Nitrous.

The DA215 is a great engine for its class

For it’s class? I did not think there was anything in it’s class?

I forgot about those brands, I have never seen either brand in person.

Got a chance to hear and even fly a DA215 this weekend. Was on a Comp Arf Extra 46lb 32x12 prop.

Thoughts and comments:
More shaky than 150 less than 170
200 much smoother
excellent and rapid transition from idle to full
easy to tune
starts easily

Tons of power but due to lower RPM sounds not to spool up by comparison but multiple maneuvers snaps rolls etc. on upline it keeps pulling and tracking straight. Excellent match for the Comp ARF.

Granted,,, a 4 banger will spoil you on it's smoothness every time but when compared to the other 2 cylinder engines out there, its a nice engine.

What's the latest with the DA215? Early reports were so-so and there's not much new info out there...?

Why so so?
Based on what I have seen, the 215 it's a beautiful powerplant, reasonably smooth and with the advantaged of a twin Vs 4 (easy to install, easy to set...) basically kind of a DA150 on steroids.

Maybe they are not selling lots of them because of the overall crisis of the industry (let's face it... ) and because the 100-120cc are becaming more popular..

PS. I would love to have one

I have a very early DA170 (sn168) and I love it.

I think I recall DA telling me there was no diff in performance but just better clearance on the slanted holes.

I am putting together an aircraft for a buddy of mine who bought this engine. He didn't get a proper fuel tank so I'm trying to figure out the best size to get. DA says this engine is uses something like 4.2 ounces of fuel per minute at full throttle.
Thats something like a 50 ounce tank needed for a 10 minute flight. Neither one of us usually fly at full throttle all time so I wonder if something smaller like 32 ounces or just a bit bigger is more appropriate. I would appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

I'd go with a 50oz at minimum, thats what most run on the 150/170's, with a 50oz tank. I can get about 12 minutes of mixed flying with a 2-3 minute reserve

I use the 64oz Ocean Spray juice bottle and my timer set for 14mins. However, I stop the timer right after powering up the transmitter, start engine/warm up then taxi out. The timer starts back up after I go past mid throttle.

IF i run it hard, mostly practicing upline IMAC stuff and when the alarm goes off to land, its time to land with about 2 or 3 go arounds reserve if needed. If I putz around, alarm goes off, I'll be right around or just below a 1/2 tank remaining.
