DA-85 By Mark Leseberg Jr.

So Finally I guess its time to talk about it.....
It is true...the motor is an 85 not the 75 that everyone is thinking it is. There was a 75, but the 85 made more sense to Dave and the DA crew. All that I can say is holy wow!!!!! Not only was it turning a 26X10, but We put the new 27X10 TH Mejzlik on the damn thing and it turned 6300 + rpm. The Airplane wieghed 24.6 lbs with a light fuel loading. I am so impressed with this motor that I will use it on the 102'' Yak.

The Vibration is nearly non existent compared to any other single. Dave's Crew has come up with a mass balanced crank that makes this motor EXTREMELY Smooth. Less Vibration than the 100 in Huffy's Opinion. Mid Range is Perfect. I flew the new motor 8 times on Monday in TUS with no problems. We tried 4 different props and two different cylinders. They have spent a lot of time on this thing and it was well worth it. I beat the Hell out of the Airplane all day and not a hickup.

Extremely Light as well! DA will have the exact specs on it but I forget. It really does turn the 27X10 though that is not a typo.

I will reply later to any questions you all might have. Good Luck and Enjoy!

Lets see some video. I have a 33% H9 edge 540 with a ZDZ rvj in it. Be interesting to see the comparisons. In cowl mufflers ? Pipes? props etc.

Thanks

Re: DA-85 By Mark Leseberg Jr.

Other props used were a 25X12 Three Blade AirModels, 26X10 Mejzlik, 27X10 TH Mejzlik.

I guess I really wasn't thinking about other 80 size motors, but rather what my DA 100 Turns. I think that I will be able to put the motor on the QQ 102' Yak 54 and have the same performance because of the weight savings. I talked to Brian and he told me that the motor is just over 4 lbs. Between 4 and 4.25. Also, please bear in mind that this is a perliminary motor, and not stock.
Everything is subject to change. He still wants to do some more work with the porting and the case, so specs will change.

For those of you that are thinking about the 85, bear in mind that the motor will be ready when Dave says it is ready. He wants this product to be a benchmark for DA. On the long list of reliable motors offered by DA. As always customer service is paramount for their business model. As such the 85 has many many new ideas incorporated in its design that aren't totally proven. Once it holds up to extreme punishment, then and only then will DA release it.

It is Rear Induction.

They have really outdone themselves this time!
