Help!
Headed to Joe Nall 2019 from New Zealand

Hi all,

Am planning on attending Joe Nall next year, and am meeting a mate in Toronto and driving down for the week.

I would love to fly during the event, and will have just finished a few weeks at Weldon, SoCal, Dynamic Soaring. This means I will have a transmitter and some tools etc with me (Leaving the DS Gliders in LA). Bringing something like my 106" Edge is not really logistically friendly, so was wondering on options. Whether I pay someone to borrow a plane for a week, or buy something then sell it at weeks end, etc etc. Id call myself a competent 3D pilot and would love to huck it with my international buddies!

If anyone can offer some advice, that would be awesome!

Regards

Alex

Hi Guys,

No responses to my previous query.

However, Ive been trying to make things work. My friend from Toronto cannot make it with me, so had organized to meet another friend from New Zealand there and hire an RV, however, he has also bailed on me to save up for a Canadian Ski trip.....

So I'm really hoping one of the good people I've come to admire here will be able to give me a few moments out of their lives to help me get sorted to attend.

Anyone out there able to answer some of my many questions as to camping (maybe someone has a spare bed? Will shout you beer for the week and dinners!), registration, should I buy a model somewhere to fly at the event, etc etc...

Help a Brother Hucker out

I'm sure there will be a way to pull this off...hopefully you can find someone to pick you up from a nearby airport (Greenville-Spartenburg or Asheville).
Once that is done, you'll need to find an open bed or buy a tent locally or shipped in from Amazon straight to Triple Tree as they accept packages (plenty of decent tents for under $100)
Would also recommend connecting with the Nall 3D Facebook group at:

Maybe book a hotel room in Spartanburg as a backup while you search for onsite accommodations?

Thanks Heaps for the reply Suds!! Some really good info in there, and I'll be sure to join the facebook group. I will look at some tent options for camping.

I have a ride to and from Charlotte at the start and finish of the event, and back up accommodation in Greenville as my folks have decided to add Nall to their itinerary while they are in the USA at a similar time.

My aim is to be part of the festivities after-hours as I feel this is a must for Joe Nall, so camping on site seems the only way forward

I will fill out the registration, including a camping site to cover the basis of camping, as I can always visit a store selling camping supplies while in Charlotte.

I'm looking forward to meeting new faces and sharing flying yarns

Not sure about your budget, but maybe rent an SUV or a van from whatever airport you fly into near the event, and drive that there, then camp out of it. Then you'd have shelter and transportation. I'd offer to try and help you out, but I'm not sure I'm going to make it myself. Still waiting to see how some bills are going to play out before I can make a decision.

Thanks Darkbird, Another solid option, but a pricey one.

Have had a great offer of a tent and mattress from someone on the facebook group. Sounds like i'll just buy a sleeping bag from somewhere and I may be sorted

Also turns out, I cant get back to Charlotte on Saturday the 18th, so just need to work that one out. Am sure someone will be headed back that way on the Saturday

Just sent you a friend request on FB.
Let's connect at Nall and I'll let you eat some amps on my 3 giant scale electrics.
I'll likely be tent camping on the 3D pond.
