PAU Edge 540T 50-60cc discussion

I've noticed questions being asked about the new Edge designed coming out of the PAU production pipe, so I thought I'd start dedicated support threads for these machines! This one is for the new 50-60cc version, done up in orange. The people with the most flight time on the prototype are Gaby, Ben, and Ken, and some others (including myself) have flown it a bit as well. It's going to be a great machine! Maybe Herve or Ken can get on here with more specifics such as wingspan and area, but to start things off I'm including a couple videos of Jamie and Ben rocking the DA-60 powered prototype at Wenatchee Huckfest 2012. Enjoy!

This is Ben's first flight on the 30% Edge. There was two things that impressed me right off the bat. It draws some real nice lines and it's designed to be a 3D plane. Better then that it's easy to get used to. I flew it and got comfortable with it right away.

Wenatchee Huckfest PAU 30% 540T (5 min 58 sec)

PS: I really like the looks.

Awesome, I have been waiting for an offering in this class that is "designed to be a 3D plane". I dont want an IMAC plane that can also 3D. Dont get me wrong, I totally respect the IMAC guys and their skills.

That being said, please elaborate what design elements have been implemented. Certainly I respect the proprietary nature of these things ...... But what design elements are focused on 3D performance?? Flight surface size, stall characteristics as a result of airfoil, anti-tip stall, please elaborate

It does seem very stable post stall and has lots of authority at slow airspeed.

Also, I did not see any obvious snap tendencies with aggresive elevator in the video - very cool.

Great job going out to the pilot. Great skill.

Bigger control surfaces and the straight leading edge of the Edge's wing make it a natural as a "3D first, IMAC second" airplane.

I was about to pull the trigger on an EF 30% Edge 540, but this plane stopped me cold. That has to be the nicest looking Edge on the market.

Does anyone have the length, rudder height and wing span? Canister tunnel? Expected weight?

The wingspan is 88"; hopefully Herve or Ken can chime in with the other dimensions. It does have a tunnel.

I hope this Edge is not super sized like so many other 50cc planes that are now over 90" long and weight 18 to 20 lbs.

I have always wanted to build a PAU and this might be a good start.

It isn't super sized and only capable of flying on a 60. While the prototype is DA-60 powered, I don't see why it wouldn't fly well on a good 50. The 60 gives it lots of performance.

Length is 81" (including spinner).
Expected wight with DA-60, 3 Relion 2600 MaH batteries, Pitts muffler, is around 17lbs. This is the equipment fitted into the prototype shown above.
It does have a canister tunnel.
Includes all typical PAU hardware, CF landing gear, wing and stab tube, NEW all CF tail wheel.

Well done, I look forward to the release. I am not sure of what engine I will use (DLE55, DA60 EME60), but a canister is a must at my club.

And I like this tail gear better than your old design.

Agreed...Been trying to decide on another 30%er. Taking a SERIOUS look now.

Don't take this wrong, but this needs to be in, Airframes and kits or Build Threads. need to let others in on this!!

I'm on this site nearly everyday, but don't come into the Industry connection very often.
