Worked on the retracts yesterday, had a small leak in one of the cylinders that resulted to a conversion to electric. I had some Robart electric actuators that fit perfectly in the CY models frames, so job done!!

Additionally, the Robart offset strut I had also fit, so I now have a hybrid retract that fits perfectly.

Mixed feelings this afternoon. I was successful in modifying the tail retract to electric;

CY-Models P51 tail wheel modification (0 min 17 sec)

But ran into an issue with the mains!,

Test fit the updated retracts this afternoon, all went well until it was time to retract!! As you can see, when using the offset Robart strut the wheel doesn’t recess enough!!

CY-Models retract test (0 min 20 sec)

This isn’t an issue with the stock struts

CY-Models retract1 (0 min 20 sec)

Ugh!!!

Well, that’s a bummer. Wonder why? Is there some type of interference that can be relieved, etc?

I would need to have a strut with an additional .5 inch or so offset. Looks like I’ll move forward with the stock struts but use the new wheels until I can source a better alternative.

Ran into an issue with the gear doors. The ones supplied must be for a different version. I still have the old ones which will make a great template to make new ones if I can’t get some replacements sent.

Worked on some custom mounts for the radio and batteries today. Broke out the 3D printer and was able to print off a mount for the Powerbox Pioneer…

Rough version printed, will print a higher quality piece (2 hours), this evening.

I was able to complete the battery mount in the aft of the fuselage. I decided to run 2x5000 MAH for the radio and 1x3000 MAH for the retracts and ignition. All batteries will be the Powerbox PRO Li-Ion and should eliminate any need for rear ballast.

Before mounting the engine I will need to reinforce the firewall, I plan on doing so by adding aircraft ply to the rear of the existing firewall along with some CF weave and gussets.

Next issue to solve is the engine mounting, more details on that shortly….
