Re: Bill Hempel 100cc Yak-55M?????

Can anyone provide the header drop required with a DA100 and MTW flex headers?

Anyone have the length of the canister tunnel to the front of the engine box? Need to determinine if I can get a 10.5" header length with MTW 75 cans installed, or if it would even fit.

I read the thread, but did not see this info.

I use the MTW75TDK cans and I think the headers were zero drop. I just asked DA for the shortest possible drop headers and did not cut anything off the length. And they are the flex headers.

ExtPlt...

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if I can get a decent balancing situation with the rudder servo in the tail?

Headers, cans, with (3) A123 2300 packs and ignition on the motor box.
Perhaps around 22-23 .oz?

I am not a fan of pull pull.

I seriously doubt you could get it to balance with the servo in the tail. I believe it has been tried, if you look back through the thread. I believe it was done on a 100cc. I know my 50cc was difficult to get to balance even with everything as far forward as possible. These planes are tail heavy because they are very scale with a short nose and long tail. The full scale Yak 55 has a big, heavy Russian radial engine on the nose so its not an issue.

I'm really surprised people have "tail heavy" Yaks. Every one of mine has balanced just right on the initial setup. If anything I have seen them favor nose heavy....

I agree Mike on the larger Yaks. The 50cc and 100cc the CG is a bit more sensitive. On my 150cc Yak, I have to move my batteries rearward to get the airplane to track correctly.

My Hempel Yak is 1.5" behind the center of the wing tube. It is a little sensitive but tracks good.

Not sure about the bigger planes, but I know my 50cc has two Rx batteries on top of the engine box, the ignition battery over the engine, and about 2 ounces of lead up front. It balances about 3/4" behind the wing tube.

Im going to go with either a hacker A60 and castle 120hv or the rimfire 50cc motor same esc,12s 5000 batts. We have good luck with the rimfire stuff but its a little heavy. Im going to place batteries in and then see how much weight in need up front to decied what motor. Ill post pics

Re: Bill Hempel 100cc Yak-55M?????

Do you think the overall weight will be lighter than a 50cc gas engine? I have thought about doing this and Im wondering what weight benifits there are to this, if any. Do you think your setup will have more power than a DA50?
