Re: Kiwi F3P Git'n 'R Dun!

Sorry everyone for the slow progress. But we're both waiting on materials and gear.

Well it aint much but Ive hinged the elevator and cut and beveled the side gussets.

The problem is I don't know wether to put lightning holes in the side gussets or not. Is it really worth the effort? If i put holes in them i would want to put them on the underneath of the fuse rather than on top so as to sorta hide them. But then I was planning to put all servos and gear under there. Putting the gussets underneath would make this kinda difficult.

Ideas?

I would make the holes in them, and then glue it on the bottom of the fuse. I just finished doing that to my shock flyer yak 54.

Lookin' swish mate! You're ahead of me right now, I got NOTHING done today, was at a 21st and I was a write-off all day, spewed around 5 times. Woot.

I went to get spray cans for the paint job on mine just yesterday. I rolled on up to the counter with an arm full of paint and get asked for ID?? Wth? Turns out you have to be 18 to buy spray-paint with taggers and such abound.

Haha gud

WTF! I'm going to get some today, so do I have to be 18? I've had no trouble in the past with Mitre 10.

Well, for an overseas forum to dedicate a section to kiwi flyers,
that automatically makes me rate it 10/10

I've been working all week so only had a chance to do some more on the Kiwi F3P this weekend. Don't worry, I won't pull a 'Shortbus' on you guys.

Take Alex's kit of foam parts: add Carbon, CA, accelerator and some blocks of 2x4 for building guides, and you get this!

She's ready for radio gear and fuse bracing. The little disks you see on the wing and in the fuse are 1.5mm fiberglass sheet to accept the bracing wires (Spider-line) I made my perforations with a sharpened 12mm Ali tube and a Mk I eyeball gauge.

I'd like to know where I can get one of those? The set I was born with is getting a bit out of adjustment....LOL

Another suggestion... Next time you do bracing with kevlar line, dump the reinforcements and tie straight to the carbon spar and leading edge. Its about 100 times stronger tied to the carbon, and does not add as much weight.

Re: Kiwi F3P Git'n 'R Dun!

I have a question about the kick ass triangle drag holes you did in your ailerons. I am going to put some on mine but I haven't decided where yet. I will do round ones as the plane is put together. My question is:
I understand the drag holes are to slow the plane down when the surfaces are deflected but I was thinking they should be closer to the middle of the aileron instead of inbound. My reason is that for hovering etc they are not necessary, but in forward flight they are, thus if they were out of the majority of prop was they would retain their effectiveness while not reducing surface area in the prop wash stream. The other thing I was thinking is that if they are past halfway out the holes would also stabilize the plane.

I am not questioning what you have done, I am only trying to learn more.
Thanks,
Russ
