Yes, this is a new development with EME ignitions as they use to be 6V to 12V but new ones are now coming labeled 7.4 to 12V. Note which one you have to know what you will have to use for ignition power.

I talked to my contacts in China about this. The EME CDI is made by Rcexl. My contact talked to Rcexl about this issue and I was told that this CDI will work with a Li-Fe 6.6V pack. Yet to try mine. Flat out doing other stuff.

Can anyone post the electric start setup. How to start with choke, and how the controller works with the radio. Wiring setup and start sequence.

Thanks

It is a very good easy setup. I used the recommended controller from Mile High. Plug the controller into a spare rx channel. I assigned the pusbutton (Spektrum Dx 18) to this channel. The controller has xt90 connections. Using a 3s 1300 lipo for battery. Make a xt 90 plug with a pos and neg lead to go to the starter motor. Mount the batt and controller appropriate to your model.
Start sequence is the same as any. Close the choke, ignition on, hit the button and spin it until the motor pops. Open the choke and hit the button until it starts. It will spin the motor very quickly.

A question for the group-- What's the largest diameter prop that I can use with the EME 70?

I haven't flown or built anything using wet fuel in at least 20 years having converted to electric. Even my 1/4 scale stuff is electric. I'm just about ready to cover a 1/3 scale Fokker DVIII and I'm considering gas instead of electric. I was a little envious as few weekends back at Rhinebeck as Adam Liley and Ken Hall were chasing each other around for 15 or 20 minutes with their 1/3 DVIII and Pup and I was only getting 8-10 minutes with my DVII. I was also impressed with Adam's smoke set up.

How close can I get to a 30" prop with the EME 70? It looks like everyone runs a 24" prop on this engine.

Thanks

You could run a 25x8. To get a bigger diameter you might find a 26x6 but I’m not aware of anyone making one that size. The only way to get to 30”
Would be some kind of gear reduction. I don’t know if one for the EME 70. You’d be looking at something custom I think.

A more practical answer might be to go to a bigger engine or a 4 stroke.

I agree. My other thought was to go with an EME 120, another engine with a great reputation, with the ability to swing a bigger prop. MHRC's site shows a 29x10 in the prop size range spec'd for the 120. That'll do I think. Only issue is that it is way, way more engine than a 25 lb scale aircraft needs. Will these engines tolerate flying at half or less throttle settings for long periods without issue?
