I'm one of those "smart" people, but also understand what Tx people use is a highly opinionated and often times debated topic. I'm bored @ work so don't mind expanding on why I made the switch.

First off I should note that I never had any problems with my A9 in the whole season I owned it.

Would I try to steer anyone away from buying one? Probably not. I still think it's a good radio, I just had a number of reasons to switch to the 8FG, and I'm quite happy I did.

In my opinion better use of the 2.4ghz band (hops all channels rather than a selected 20 channels), increased channels (I realize Hitec could easily do the same with their firmware on the A9), lower brown-out voltage levels, lower amp draw on average compared to Hitec systems (I'm guessing mostly because of no telemetry - something I've come to realize I don't need), easier navigation via sensor touch (realized I wasn't too big a fan of the touch screen), and better transmitter layout - the sticks themselves are closer together on the 8FG which feels better to me.

Price to change over was $120 to be at the same place w/ the same # of receivers. Small price to pay, and the benefits are worth it to me. Of course, others might not feel the same way but then again what Tx you use is a very personal opinion.

If it has S-Bus servos in it then all you need to do is assign what servo to what channel using the SBC-1 programmer or the receiver (S-Bus) depending on which you have.

If you do not have S-Bus servos then you the SBD-1 Decoder

Go to the bottom of the page to see what's what.

Here's the Tower page with all the S-Bus stuff

if the the two pimples that clip into the holes in the ears at the base of the housing are undamaged just clip it back in place.

If its brokem you can send it into Hobbico for a replacement of the antenna housing. The antenna itself is the tip of the grey wire inside the black plastic bit thats broken off

One of the pimples are broken. If I have to send my 8fg to Hobbico that means I'll grounded for weeks and I won't able to fly my new Realflight 7

Only other way to repair it is to remove the antenna, then drill a small 1mm hole. refit the antenna and then find a 1mm jewellers type screw to hold the housing in the place.
