Re: Safety Start New Product.. Anybody?

safety is always good!

perhaps you could stick in the ground and pull on it with a fish scale at the height of a stab and measure how many pounds of pressure it takes to pull it loose

try different soil types, hard, medium, soft, turf etc, it would help us decide

And for these people there are Lawyers. If I were you, I'd look carefully at liability issues before making such a product.

I plan on doing this and I am actually very strongly considering getting rid of the spike and going to a 12 inch long steel corscrew like on the dog cable holders and with the arms in the down position you would have plenty leverage to screw it into the groud . I have a 120lb German Shepeard that hits the end of the cable full tilt boogy and almost rips his head off when he hits the end of the line I'm sure this wold hold back even the soon to be released DA-170 at full throttle!!!!!!!!!

Re: Safety Start New Product.. Anybody?

I personally have found that tail trap set up's and even ankles holding stabs can loosen the stabs and stab tube. I think this is a great idea for "starting" the motor, but I wouldn't rev the engine in this for fear of airframe damage.

But for going to the field alone, and flipping the prop to get the motor started, it sounds great.

I would second the notion about getting a lawyer and going over the legal issues with this.
It would take just one person to mis-use the product, and they could own everything you have.

Why not just sell it with a clause that accepts no responsibility?

You are not legaly allowed to sign away any of your rights. Those type of disclaimers are worthless.

That is what liability insurance is for, but unfortunately it might make pricing the item unrealistically high.

That's something that worries me too (stressing too much the stabs). So, what method of "strapping" the airplane for full throttle ground runs would be better then?

a friend made me 1 1/2 wide aluminum straps with 3/4 inch thick foam padding that go over the wing and hook around the leading edge, they have holes drilled in the ends and are tied with giid nylon rope to a spiral dog tie down hook, holds back my da100 no problem

That one from Don's works very well. I only use it when I am alone out there.
