A lot were Spectrum/JR systems coming unbound or Futaba systems "not hopping" or battery/voltage issues, etc. We ain't exactly at the fool-proof stage of the 2.4 game just yet but I'm sure things will get worked out. As far as "kissing 2.4 on the mouth," I'll stick to the wife for now........ I like my hobby and all but I won't go gettin' weird about it any time soon! LOL!

The number of pilots at an event and the decision to go "2.4 only" by the event staff doesn't have a thing to do with total acceptance WITHOUT having some problems. Just an observation........

I am with you on this one......I have watched some top notch pilots and builders have there planes just go into a strange loop right into the ground, then the conversations after is what scared me the most...talking about brown outs, grey out, reboots, low voltage,re-bind,Bla Bla Bla.....My long chrome pole sticking out of my radio has NEVER let me down in the 7yrs i have been flying. The best part is that 20 people that told me i was CRAZY for using 72mhz on Comp planes with silver weave canopies, still no probs ....but it looks like i will have no choice but to change if i want to go to the Nall...man its going to be expencive to change everything over.So when is the 900mhz coming out to make the 2.4 look like old school LOL.Maybe i am just looking for reasons not to make the jump to 2.4

Re: Can I really trust this 2.4 stuff?

Alright after 2 years I never had one problem with 2.4 spektrum but out of the blue it locked out. Radio problems happen and they are going to happen whether is 2.4 or 72mhz. The 2.4 is not bullet proof in any way a vibrating boot cap will cause interference on 2.4 so I disagree with the statements about that matter anyways, the modern day radio's have better programming and are as safer to use as 72mhz (no more shooting down peoples airplanes!). My crash was probably caused by the receiver pack having issues, its Canada it gets cold and Batteries don't like the COLD!

Re: Can I really trust this 2.4 stuff?

I thought this was an old thread that had been resurrected. But then I remembered the Amish still commute by horse and carriage. Occasional radio troubles will happen whether it's 72, 2.4 or 900 MHz. Set your system up correctly.

There are people that mount a receiver inside a canopy with unshielded exhaust pipes running through the radio compartment and then let their plane sit out in 100 degree sun light and wonder why did my radio overheat. They will use a motor with 80 pounds of thrust to fly a 39 pound airplane and use a battery that's 3.3 ounces lighter because they don't want to slow the plane down on vertical and then wonder why they browned out and had a lockout.

Most crashes are either the thumbs or the dead airspace between the ears, don't worry about 2.4, it's as reliable as anything ever built.

i also don't think than any system you use is bullet proof. ive seen 72 stuff go in do to what could only be a reciever problem. and im certain some of the complaints of 2.4 stuff going in is because of hardware failure. it's all man made and mass produced and there can be some problems. unfortunatly it cost us dearly. i think it is a great system jr/futaba and set up right the numbers are with you on a safe flight.

If you want a true bullet proof plane setup, just dont fly it at some time something will go wrong, but if you never take off it will not be fatal.

Ive seen so many problems and had stupid ones my self, can only blame setup and maintenance and then one day something unexpected will bite you !!

But radio failure is a good one to blame.

If it wasn't for 2.4 my jet Waco would never function, and I take that thing far out to, with other planes flying.

I've never had a 2.4 issue. I have had issues in 2.4 planes though. I had one go in from what I believe was the rx battery (don't know, there wasn't much left) and one go in when the &*$#@% 2.4 module fell out of the back of my transmitter....

Same here. No problems at all on Spektrum. I read many threads of other people that have had problems. I must just be very lucky.

Man that had to make your day.

I have been on 2.4Ghz since day dot and have never had an issue personally. However I did see a 14MZ with 2.4Ghz do some crazy stuff while the guys iPhone started ringing in his pocket. If Mr Jesky had not been at the guys side to grab the phone and toss it that 3M Yak was going to be toast.

True story so dont forget to leave the phone in your flight box.

I have flow my Futaba FASST with cellphone in my pocket and I agree. Leave the phone in the pits/car/truck whatever. I never got a call but when my phone updates it makes computers beep the way most do when they get a call. While practicing some slow rolls the plane would seem to stutter at times. I thought maybe it was just me being paranoid because 2.4 was new for me at the time. It has never "stuttered" since I decided to leave the phone in the van.
