It's raining gopro's ......

Went flying on Sunday. Decided to try some "VNE" pulls to vertical for max number of rolls straight up.

Attempt no 3 and right at max speed (210) there's an almighty BANG as the Gopro on the top of the nosebowl departs and hits the canopy.

I'd checked it before I took off - no problems. It failed by the lugs on the casing snapping off - I think the combination of airspeed and propwash were just too much for it.

Luckily it bounced off the cabane struts on the way back to hitting the canopy. I think it missed the tail as there's no sign of any damage. Anyway, looks like it's time for a Hero 3+ and a rethink about how it's mounted.

It's in a field somewhere near Harby (Langar) in England somewhere. I bet if it ever gets found the video will be interesting.

I love a Pitts, especially the S-1S. In its day its vertical performance was considered astounding.

Which model is yours.?

S1-S with a Lycoming 0-360 180hp and MT fixed pitch prop plus a few "go faster" bits.

In my model flying days I would have considered a R/C Pitts "tame" compared to Edge's Extras etc.

In the full size world though it's WAY more aeroplane than I can get the best from.

I flew an Sbach a couple of times - thought it would be fantastic, but the reality is that it's like taking up boxing for a hobby.

I'd take my Pitts over it any time.

(just reflecting on that - I'll make an exception for the S1-11B "super stinker")

I think I saw this originally on FG, but speaking of gopros falling from planes and being found for interesting video, this one is almost too perfect to be real:

Camera falls from airplane and lands in pig pen--MUST WATCH END!! (1 min 10 sec)

oink oink!

OK so I guess I have to ask the question. Did they have to wait until the GoPro came out of the pig before recovering it?

Impressive how many times the camera pointed back at the plane when it tumbled! Did it survive?

Hello Go Pro Users, I need some advice on my new camera. What settings do you use for the best filming of flying planes? Mine is set at 1080 30 fps superwide view now and it has a curved screen and playback upon viewing. Good video but should I just use 1080 30 fps and wide view to remove the curve out of the video and still get full screen. What settings do you all use?
Thanks, Steve Mullis
