My 1st trip to Reno was in 1984. SO many memories.

I met Pappy Boyington there that year, bought his book, got it signed, and talked to him for a short while.
I fell in love with the F8F Bearcat that year, watching Howard Pardue's aerobatic display and racing.
I fell in love with the Pitts Special watching Bob Herendeen, one of the greatest Pitts drivers EVER!
Lefty Gardner in the P-38 Lightning.
Brian Sanders in Dreadnaught.

Literally nothing else has given me the same feeling as hearing the Unlimited Gold race heading down the shoot onto the course. Nothing. It's intense beyond description.

They won't ever let you that close to the pylons anymore wish I was around back then to experience that!

Wow, best seat in the house! Clearly some of the pilots LOVED giving them a barn-burner

I have a question for you Reno (and other race) buffs.... These planes seem to always use 4-blade props, but our little toys fly faster on 2-blade setups. Is that just because the real planes have enough torque to get the speed out of more blades?

I'm going to assume that they have so much power that a properly loaded two or three blade would be so large it would hit the ground. So to load the engine correctly a 4 blade is used .
