Re: Lipo Fire Took My House Thursday Night

Sorry for your loss. I just thought my plane burning down was bad enough. I had a Thunderpower 1320 two cell explode during charge . yes, it was charging in the plane. the lesson learned is that 99% of time it's charging in my shop 28x36. everything that I own is in there. if it had not caught fire at the field it would most likely got my shop. now I'M done with lipo technology totally. went to A123. bet the farm that lipos are dangerous. they explode when you least expect them to. words cannot describe the tremor that you feel when this happens. the insataneously burst is unbelievable. I'M telling you from experience.

Sorry for your loss. AND thankfully that you and your family got out.

BUT, never , NEVER, charge a Lipo unattended.
I use a crock to charge my Lipo's in.

We indulge in our hobby but our family is what matters. Save the best and replace the rest. Thoughts are with you.

All mine quit working when I cut the leads off of them and threw them in the trash.

Sorry for your loss. I am glad to hear your family is safe. Thanks for the heads up about verifying your fire extinguisher is in proper working order. Currently in the process of switching over to A123. Picked up several 2300's this past weekend. Glad I made the decison.

You will not regret the move. just buy a good A123 charger. takes a little effort to figure the discharge ma. trust the charger. the milliamps are right. most use the cellpro. they work well.

I only go to around 50% capacity. that is (3) 14 min. flights then a 20 minute recharge.

I have a Cell Pro 4. My only concern, is that I recently read that I must disconnect one of my batteries when charging, or I will have a common ground which will damage the charger and/or battery.

I very seldom charge lipo's in my house, but i am thankful to have a separate shop to charge in.
I always try to place the charger and batts in middle of shop floor away from any combustible items. But have been careless as well, like charging in trailer while pulling it.

Sorry bout your loss, but at least you all got out alive! Any battery charging unattended can pose a hazard.. I was charging my RIDGID 12V drill in my shop and the charger caught on fire. Just happened to walk by as the smoke started pouring out..
