flaps on a race plane

hears a question for all of you. I designed a 40% stand off scale wr1 racer. span 105, weight 35_ 37 lbs, wing load 40 oz per sq ft, power del 111.
the question is flaps, the original I believe didn't have any. as far as I could tell , not much info is available on this plane. I only had a 3 view drawing to go by, and some pics from eaa. I'm considering adding split flaps to the craft. as I understand split flaps will generate more lift at low deflections25 degrees or less. after that it produces more drag acting like a speed break. is my thinking flawed? help.

Nope, that's dead on thinking.
