Mine too

I just got to thinking about this and got out my Citabria with a DLE 30 and guess what? Mine will not quit on low throttle either. I have an electronic shut off so never tried or gave it any thought. Hmmm. If I let is set and idle at fully closed it will idle "real" slow almost sounds like it is gonna quit, and it take a full minute sometimes two till it fianlly quits. It runs and flys the model super and idles down just fine otherwise. Brian Smith

Probably an air leak. Squirt some carb cleaner at the gasket interfaces and see if the idle changes. If it does, it is leaking.

I cleaned up the mating surfaces between the carb and reed block(s) and crankcase last night by gently sanding the plastic pieces on a flat steel plate. The wear pattern that appeared showed a possible leak between the internals and the bolt holes.

I'll try this tonight along with adjusting the high speed needle.

Watching for what you find

Mine runs so well and hand starts so easily I don't plan to do anything with it at least not right now. TNX. Brian

Thanks for the input everyone. I ran the motor this morning after cleaning up the carb and reed mating surfaces, I did not adjust the needles. It shut down like it was supposed to with the throttle closed.

I tried leaning out the high needle to get the top end RPMs up but it just wanted to lean out too much and die without bringing the RPMs up any higher. I think this DLE just doesn't want to swing the 20x8 up to an appropriate speed while still breaking in. I'll get a 19x8 and run that for the break-in period on the plane.

How many things did you change/check before running it? It sounds like something obviously worked, but it's hard to know what if several things got changed all at once.

The only thing I actually changed before running it again and testing the throttle kill was cleaning up the mating surfaces of the carb/reed block. That worked. I then tried to get some more RPM by leaning the top end as some had suggested. Didn't work so well.

I put a 19x8 on it and ran it again tonight, spooled up a lot higher and quicker, I guess I'll run this prop for break-in.

My DLE 35 in my Citabria can be stopped using in 4 different ways including the throttle trim, the Reed's block job has been done to it from the very beginning 3 years ago, I probably burned about 3 gallons till now and it starts by hand very easy, the idle rpms are right on the spot with the 20X8.

So far this has been the most reliable, easier to run engine I ever had.
