This is a Pitts Model 12. If you look at the wing, struts, and fuselage from the cowel back... I do see similarities.

Actually, thats a Pitts Python......

Re: Full scale 3-D, Toucan turboprop

Some of you are close...some WAY off!

Pitts Model 12, Pitts Python, Turbine Toucan

All are out of the same jigs here in our shop. That being the Pitts Model 12 jigs. The python is a light weight single seat model 12 not a completely new airplane. We built it to see how light we could get a model 12 and to test out some new aileron hinge ideas. The toucan is model 12 based with similarly modified model 12 wings to that of the python, a 1.5 place canopy and a restyled fin and rudder. Keep in mind the size of these airplanes is quite a bit larger than that of the ultimate series. David has done a great job building the airplane. I can't wait to see it in person.

See ya,

Kevin Kimball

Ah, I stand corrected. I tried to pull up pics of the 12 from that site and the Python was the only one I could grab. Today it seems the gallery works for me.
Either way, the Toucan is certainly its own machine with all of the mods, eh! Interesting to here they were built off some of the same jigs.

This is a quote from Toucan website:
Quote:
We are excited about many records we think we have a shot at. The world speed record for a biplane was set almost 66 years ago at 324mph. World’s only fixed wing propeller driven aircraft that can hover.
I'm really impressed!

Dang Jeremy! That's an old pic of Dave's M12. I think it's been three years or something since he had it at his house....

Re: Full scale 3-D, Toucan turboprop

Greetings!
How exciting to see all the postings regarding the Turbine Toucan. I thought I would introduce myself, I'm David Kervinen, owner of the Turbine Toucan. Just got off the phone a bit ago with Max of FG, a great conversation. Infinity Entertainment Inc., the Company behind the TT is very committed to supporting the RC community. Any questions or comments are always appreciated. You ask us in this forum or on our website which is www.turbinetoucan.com.

We are making great progress with test phase of the program, and we look forward to the 2008 Airshow season. So far, the performance of the plane (about 15 flights now) are over the top. We're seeing 8500+ft a minute rate of climb with a little more then half power. Weather has been hot so we will temp out before we torque out with the Turbine.

Kevin did a nice job of describing the plane compared to the model 12 or Python. The systems are VERY different. Anyway, just thought we'd say hello and look forward to seeing you all when we are in full swing airshow mode. All the best.

David

This rules.

And its cool to see a full scale company actually think about the RC community this early in the game.

MUCHO PROPS!

Can't wait to see the coverage.
