Just back from Nall, spent most of the week at the lake. All I can say is, if you don’t have a float kit for your 120, get one.

I can now confirm the GA6000.8 is a strong motor on this plane.
It pulls this big plane around with authority. I'm right at the max 140-amps recommend for 15s peaks with a Xoar PJN 25x12 prop. Rarely will I use all of the available power as this plane floats but it is good to know the extra power is on tap should I need it to pull out of a hover or other maneuver.

Really a fun plane and change of pace from a normal aerobatic plane. This especially true after I dialed in the flap to elevator mix after a handful of flights.

I was somewhat surprised when I found (as described by another MTBM pilot) the "flips straight over on to it's back" trick when you pull the stick back like you would with a more normal 3D plane for a wall! Will be fun to utilize that knowledge on future flights.

Has anyone else had problems with the tail wheel strut? This thing lands light as I kite, so I was surprised after maybe 30 flights to to see it has delaminated at the bend allowing so much flex that the tiller arm and collar had poked a large hole in the bottom of the airframe. Purchases a new tailwheel set from EF ( $40.00!!) and patched the hole, now the same thing happening 3 months later.. Am I the only one??

Has anyone tried a different gas engine, other than da70, on his bushmaster? I'm thinking about a mvvs 58 but not sure if it will be enough for 3d

I’ve flown the DA70 on the MTW canister, RE3 tuned pipe and GP76 on standard mufflers. I’d not go with a smaller engine, personally. My current setup with DA70 on the 2-1 header on RE3 tuned pipe is epic. A 58cc I “would think” have not nearly enough punch out of hover if at all. The aircraft weighs around 20 pounds. Now, just flying around?... no problem. Plenty of space in the fuselage to move batteries around if a lighter engine is used to adjust CG. Those are my thoughts... other than the airframe is awesome.

Anyone fly this plane with one of 80+cc engines? I've got a GP 88 Evo. Just wondering if this is to much engine for this airframe. I'll probably just go with the proven DA70 and a 2 into 1 header with muffler.

Has anyone setup and used the gas powered 120" TB as a glider tug?

Yes - My friend Jim has a 120" TBM with an excellent install of a DA 120 and it tows great!!

He fly's this as one of the main tugs for the Pacific NW Regional Aerotow meets.

Balanced well and is a great flyer for 3D fun also!

Awesome, some pictures would be much appreciated. I'm curious about the DA120 installation, how it fits in the cowl, CG balancing, and any structural mods for the tow hitch/release.

In Search of!!!

Hey guys,
LOVE the thread! I am in search for a used 120" TBM. I have been flying my 84" for over a year now (still my favorite plane I own) but I REALLY want the 120". If anyone is looking to sell or you know someone who might be interested in selling, I am looking to buy or trade. I have a brand new Timber 110 with only about 15 flights on it. Very nice. Need to sell it or trade it.

Cheers!

-Clint
