CARF P-51 GG

my dream plane.

SHHHHHHH. DO not tell my boss........

otherwise:

I was able to arrange for the Old Dominion to not deliver to my house. Instead, I went and picked it up and then unloaded it when the boss went out to do some shopping.

This is what you get when you order the airplane:

very well packaged and two boxes.

One box is 82" long. this is the one that has the fuselage.

the other box has the wings.

The quality of the packing is very good and no damage.

The 1st two things I did:

1. I wanted to see what spinner will be flush. This is a 6" spinner.

I cannot find a 6.5" spinner. But I am told the spinner sold by CARF is 6" also.

the one pictured is a Dave Brown 6" Parabolic.

the 2nd thing I did was temporarily install the rudder. The 2 mm wire that comes with it, to me, is just a tad bit short.

Luckily, I have an assortment of K&S piano wire

and was able to find the 2 mm (labelled) diameter. Same as the CARF one!

So, i made a small bend on one end, then inserted a 2 mm washer. Then using silver solder stick, I brazed the washer to the wire on the top end.

Then installed the rudder with the top end having the brazed on washer as a stopper. In the bottom, I will install a Dubro Collar. Maybe 2 for insurance.

ok, you all will have to see the retracts. I ordered the Electric retracts, and they are sick. I mean, I have never seen such a high quality retract. it blows ROBART away.

not a big deal, but recommended, to help hot air exit the fuselage.

DO you know if it is 2" or 3" or 4"

EDIT: The wheel has to be 3" in diameter or less, if you use 3.25", it will rub on the top end of the strut.

tail section

I have completed installation of the tail rudder, tailwheel, and both elevators.

all in all, not that difficult.

my only question is dealing with my goal on set up with regards to the elevator throw.

Ideally for me, I would like to have the desired elevator travel and program the radio so that it is 100% travel.

Meaning, to optimize the resolution. For now, I had to set the travel to 80% so that the servo arm does not impinge on the hole.

and with the 80%, seems like there is excessive deflection.

I could remedy this by extending the elevator control horn such that the ball link is further out away from the hinge line.
