*Aeroworks 98" YAK 54 85cc**

Been looking for a nice plane to put a DLE 85cc on. I don't see a lot of info on this plane on any forums. Anyone ever have one that would care to shed a little light on this plane. Pro's or Con's.

I know nothing about that Yak.

I have the Extreme Flight 91 Extra and I have a DA 85 and canister and it is an awesome combo.

The Extra is big plane and handles the motor without any problems. It is a 3d monster and all around awesome flying plane.

Just another option

A friend has the smaller 50cc version of that plane. It flies pretty good, but I am not sure it is built as strong as the EF ARF's are. His has broke several times in the air from violent maneuvers. But it does fly nice and tracks very straight.

I have the 75cc version of that plane, with a DA 85 with a canister. Best friend has the one you are looking at. Only physical difference i see, is color scheme and landing gear. I don't know doo-dah about EF ARFs, but it seems these are built fairly well. I've put mine thru some wicked tumbles and a few tuff landings and it's as good as new. If i've broke it several times doing those violent maneuvers, then i think i would stop doing them. just saying...

Yeah, not much difference in the spec's between the two. I like the round cowl as I can reach in to operate the choke vs a rod or servo.

I contacted Aeroworks about this plane and didn't get much feed back. They said there are no issues with the plane and they had a lot of them out in the field. I guess everyone that has one does not visit any of the RC forums since I'm getting very little response about this plane.

When we designed the 75cc Yak 54 the DA85 was not available. The 75cc Yak was originally designed around the 3W and ZDZ engines. When DA released thier 85cc we re-designed the 75cc Yak to better accommodate the new engine and introduced the 85cc Yak 54.

We made several changes in the design to fit the larger more powerful DA85 engine. I have listed a few of those changes below.
  • Include DA85 Mounting Template.
  • Include DA85 Plywood Mounting Block.
  • Made pipe tunnel longer to fit longer pipe.
  • Include Two Sets of Canister/Pipe mounting brackets to fit longer pipe
  • Installed Baffling in Cowling for better cooling
  • Made Wing Span and Wing Area larger to offset heavier engine and pipe
  • Changed wing from two servos to one servo per aileron. (more powerful servos are now available)
  • Changed color scheme and decal set
I have listed the wing span and area for both planes below.

85cc Yak 54
Wings span 98 inches
Wing Area 1705 sq. in.

75cc Yak 54
Wings span 94 inches.
Wing Area 1650 sq. in.

I hope this helps answer some questions. Our Yak line has been very popular and now the 85cc is more popular then ever with the release of the new DA70 and DLE60 twins!

Thanks,
Rocco

I wanted to share an amazing video with you guys of Team Pilot Andrew Grant flying an Aeroworks 50cc Yak 54 at Joe Nall. The video was filmed and edited by Team Pilot Manuel Santos.

Special thanks to Mike Mayberry, Hitec Team manager, for letting us get his plane wet
Awesome job guys!

Rocco,

Thanks for the info. Looking to make this a winter project and putting a DLE 85cc on the business end.

Rocco,

I'm thinking of this airframe for my recently acquired evolution 80gx. What is your take on this engine, if you have one. also, just running standard muffler or pitts. This would be my first aeroworks airplane. Thanks.

I haven’t had any experience with the EVO 80GX but it should be a great combo for the plane.

We do have them in stock and are offering 15% discount for the Holidays.

If you have any more questions I would be happy to help.

Thanks

I have a 75cc yak that has been rode hard and put away wet. Lots of fun. This plane has been through hell and is a survivor. It is still flyable. previous owner tried to take the wings off doing full throttle walls. bent wing tube. It was no fault of the plane. I replaced with a steel rod that is terribly heavy and plane is good for full throttle walls again. I like it enough to have a 85cc on standby. fun planes.

Our 75cc and 85cc Yak 54 have been great airplanes for us. They have been around along time and still are very popular.

We only offer our 85cc version now it is an updated version of the 75cc….

Here are a couple of great videos…..enjoy!

Thanks
Rocco

The Aeroworks 75cc Extra 260 is a nice flying plane. And Extra's fly better than Yaks, so I suggest you put your 85 on that.
