How many receivers do I need?..
Dear all,
I currently fly on JR, and until now my biggest model was a 50cc sukhoi, which I happily flew on an 8 channel JR receiver, with a single satellite for redundancy. I've just obtained a Pilot Extra 330LX , which has a DLE 120 in it (so a 107inch span model). It has dual servo ailerons, 2 elevator servos etc, and is pretty power hungry in terms of powering the HV digital servos that are fitted. Two questions 1) I think I am going to need to use some form of power distribution box to stop all this current running through the receiver bus - is this reasonable / required? 2) I am thinking of using the RG1131B receiver, which is an 11 channel, but again with just the main receiver and one satellite. Does this give me sufficient redundancy / signal path. I have a couple of RG031's which are a serial output only receiver, but this would mean going the route of a Powerbox SRS, which though very nice, are quite expensive. Thanks in advance James |

Honestly, just the 11ch Rx will be just fine. I have flown many 35 and 40% airplanes on a single 9ch or 12ch Rx, without issue.
You dont need to use a powerbox with an 11ch Rx. I just use what I have on hand. And most times, it is typically a PowerSafe JR Rx. Its not the fact that I have to or need to use PowerSafe Rxs... It a want to. I lost a 60cc bird several years ago, due to a faulty switch. So, I said right then, I will never use a double row knife switch again. Which sorta meant to me that I had to get all new PowerSafe Rxs, both 8 and 11 ch. Use what you want to use. |

In my avatar picture the yellow PA you Viper has split aileron and I am running and rg11 31 BPU receiver same as you with three satellites it will accept 3 Run 3 no reason to short yourself on reception on the red airplane it is an edge 540 and I am running the extreme power x 24 for power distribution and the electronic Servo balancing in the aileron wings it is a very nice unit I am running one receiver with satellite

I guess from what others have said that just the receiver with a single sat will be enough. Thanks for everyones responses. I get a little anxious thinking about this stuff, but if the range is sufficient on a 20cc plane, it should be sufficient on a 120cc plane. I guess there is a little bit of 'bigger plane = more satellites' which using logic doesnt really hold true..... |

If your using the XG11, 14 or 28X, you have a balance feature built into the Tx to join multiple servos on 1 surface, therefore eliminating the need for a matchbox, SmartFly Equilizer, X24 and so forth. As I stated before, all I use are PowerSafe Rxs, and I also utilize the full function of the Tx with the balance function. |

Also as mentioned, about the JR transmitters, those along with a PowerSafe Rx would negate any need for an additional device to balance multiple servos. The high end transmitters have a servo balance feature right at your fingertips. You can load it up with all sorts of devices and equipment(weight), and spend alot of money, but really there's simpler ways that yield better results in most cases. |
