Flying in Canada?

We are going on a fishing trip and I'm thinking about taking my Cub that's on floats
Anything I need to be aware of?

The shortcut to NOT requiring a UAS licence is joining MAAC. With Model Aeronautics Assocation of Canada, you can basically fly anywhere (within reason and not within 9km of any airport).

Otherwise you'd need one of these: https://www.tc.gc.ca/en/services/avi...rtificate.html

A "Basic" certification is all that's required.

For what it is worth, I just tried to take the basic test and it requires you to either be a citizen of Canada or a permanent resident of Canada. Oh well, guess I won't be flying up in the great white north anytime soon!

You are correct, AMA is reciprocal. If any of the authorities approach you, just show them your AMA card and tell them it's the equivalent of MAAC.

Have you reached out directly to MAAC to verify information?

As a Canuck I can confirm that there are some changes but our MAAC should cover most situations. If you do something stupid like flying a 35% down the street landing on the road next to an active airport, they now have some teeth to come after you....

If you are going to fly at a club as a guest of another member then you will be fine.

That being said, just email MAAC to clarify....

If you are an AMA member then you are reciprocal to MAAC.

If you want more info email the MAAC Zone Director for Manitoba - Jeff Esslinger at [email protected]

Frankly if you are NE of Flin Flon no one is going to bother you unless you interfere with full scale aircraft or damage someone's property. Follow the normal AMA rules and you should be perfectly fine.

That is one interesting airport to land in in foul weather....

What are you looking at flying?

Make sure you have your AMA membership and as stated above stay away from power line and any full scale and you should be fine.

Up there it will be the RCMP and as long as you are flying responsibly and show credentials and reasonable thought process all should be good...
