Many people use a fliter clunk (like many of the gas engines in chainsaws) that is weighted and made to have replaceable elements, they can be gotten at any small engine store. Scott Ellingson of Brillelli used to believe in them.
Another favorite has been the Hangar9 Gold inline filter. In both cases they must be cleaned out on a regular basis (that goes for the filter screen in the carb as well). I also use a filter on my gas can (as stang said) but still find some fine trash in the H9 filter on my plane, but rarely in the screen in the carb. Most everybody has a different opinion, all it seems to do is move where the crud is going to get stuck, but it is better to have the engine quit due to a clogged filter than passing the crud through to the engine. Just my 2 cents. MadDog Joe |

On my gas jug I've used a paper element filter that really does a great job of catching tiny stuff. I also have the hangar 9 gold inline filter between the tank and carb. I don't use a filter on my vent line. There is a tiny bit of stuff over time that I think comes in though the atmosphere via the vent line. Although the gas jug is filtered the H9 filter catches stuff and even still some stuff gets into the carb screen.
I would suggest that the filter inline on your plane won't cause any restriction unless it's plugging up. If there is junk in the fuel system it'll plug up the carb screen and kill your engine mid flight. So.... If your engine is going to shut down anyways if there is junk in your fuel system - wouldn't you rather clean it out of the filter than the carburetor ? (the Hangar 9 inline filter has a removable and cleanable element - works great - and does catch stuff - from where this stuff comes I can't really say). |

I didn't use one for awhile, until last Sunday, when I was not thinking and used a stopper not made for Gasoline.Man did it make a mess inside my tank and the screen in the carb, which was totally plugged. Next time I'll check it,by putting it in a cup with gas in it,just to be sure next time. Now I just have a Dubro inline filter, and well the one I run from my filling can.

don't feel lonely - I did it too - but it took about 3 or 4 days to melt the stopper - I don't know if you'll find instant results - dubro you use the red stopper - sullivan the black.
