Soft and hard wood has nothing to do with physical characteristics of the wood. Oak is a hardwood but is softer than many species of maple and cherry for instance. But that's a different forum.....

Here is an example of quarter sawn wood.....I don't think "end grain" is an accurate term at all.

Stopped to see the Viper at Terrys today. Looks awesome. It is amazing how light the vacuum bagged parts are.

Terry, just saw the national weather forecast, is the "87 days" the number of days to fly in SD?

It will be in the 80s here this weekend, so once again my projects on the build table may be neglected.

Nope, 87 days because that's how long it took crashflow to go from foamy to a 35%'er last year. In CO he was dragging his rudder. He saved so much money on all that learning curve aircraft that he got himself a new truck a couple weeks ago We normally only get Dec - Feb. that are no fly months for me anyway....now you know why we have to build so fast, flying season is almost here BUT, I will say that Joe Nall is normally my first tan of the year!!

I just finished the drawings for the ST including new foam templates. Final size I decided on is 100", 1900sq., I did increase the rudder size and height slightly and will be using a 1.5" x 48" wing tube instead of the 1.25 x 36" tube.

I would be happy to haul it down there for you if we can work it out.

Well, after a craptastic week at work.....sugar coated with this lovely white and cold weather....finally get to play a little!! I had a couple hours yesterday so I got the belly pan installed and the canopy deck glued so I could glass it right away today. Glass is mostly set up so I applied some lightweight filler to fill the cloth. I did this last time after the first few coats of primer, but this was much easier and will likely result in less primer and sanding. I just went over it twice with a motel room key card and pushed it into the fabric. Will sand later and prime before I leave for today.

I also wanted to see if it was a fluke that I got my turtle deck to fit so nicely last time, so I repeated the steps and took some pics. Well, it worked again, nearly as perfect and only about 20 minutes of work from trimming to install. This will be my new process from here out

This one came out equally as square as the first. Engine box, top of fuse and main wing tube are all 0.0 degrees to each other. Stab tube was 0.1+/- which equated to about three swipes with 180 grit wrapped around the wing tube in the hole. Held it, CA'd it and glued it in with thick CA and Microballoons. All 0 and parallel now!

The DA120 is getting boxed up to mail back for service.....I still am pondering that or the DLE111 that I have in another plane. Only difference without angled plugs is the plug caps would stick out both sides of this cowl by about 3/8" (and the power would be out of this world).

I just assumed all of his glue was frozen and his mini-clamps were brittle from the weather.

Nah. I think it got all the way to -4 today. Nice balmy weather we are having.

It was so cold this morning my little dog licked the door and her tongue got stuck.... I had to pour warm water over her tongue to get her loose....
