I have a bill hemple 1/4 scale L-4, I dont have enough throw to control the tail in windy conditions, tried the direct linkage approach also still not enough to control, looking at c.b. associates tail wheel, just wondering what you guys have done, thanks....

Ah....it’s not the tail wheel. It’s the cub, notoriously difficult to control on the ground.

You might try a gyro or be really quick on the rudder.

You can also raise the aileron on the wind side it helps with taxing.---Smitty

I have several large tail draggers several cubs and a aeronca champ, the problem is lack of tail wheel movement, the rudder moves to a 45 degree line but the tail wheel hardly moves at all, I tried removing one spring and using a direct link but due to the upline of the linkage to the tail it still has little effect, I may just bent the tailwheel arm and straiten the linkage, just looking for ideas from other owners of the same plane, thanks

What about making it free Wheel? Ie no linkage to rudder?

I used the stock tailwheel on mine but I used compression spring to the rudder control horns instead to a tiller on the bottom of the rudder.

thats interesting I might try that, I have the same set up but the springs go the little tiller piece on the bottom of the rudder, thanks

taxiing a large cub with heavy winds is a total balancing act and not always successful
Sometimes it is easier to take a 270* turn to the right, than a 90* turn to the left

What is the turn radius on a calm day? If it is less than 8 or 10 feet you probably have enough throw.
