Build Log
CY-Models P51-B with Rotomotor 130FSI

Following is the build of my recently acquired P51-B as a result of a disastrous maiden (reversed ailerons) on a used P51-B which essentially left the model unrepairable.

Looking to get this one in the air ASAP, so this build has been put in front of the others,

Following is the unboxing of the kit of which was shipped in record time from Texasrcplanes.com.

A little love for the 130. Ditched the straight pipes for the 3 into 1 exhaust system . I should now be able to keep everything within the cowl.

Awesome man! Sorry to hear about your maiden but good for you for getting right back on the horse…..in a big way!!!

The “B” model is my favorite. I still have a partially-built Top Flite P-51B that I need to finish some day. Not really into warbirds right now but I really want to complete that kit some day and will.

I’ll be watching this one! Epic powerplant you have for this plane. Really nice.

Now thats a pretty flash looking exhaust!

Wonder how the sound will change?

Looking forward to the Assembly.

Ditching the crappy CY wheels and installing a set of Robart 10 spokes that were on an unfinished TF Mustang I bought.. What’s everyone’s thoughts on the whitewall?

Looks like the original inspiration was from the Berlin Express as pictured below. Think I’m going to keep them!!

Yes. The B model with whitewalls can’t be beat. Total vintage aviation. I’d vote “yes” for sure. I had already seen some pics and planned on that for my Top Flite B model as well.

Added the linkage to enable the choke on all carbs, now I’ll have a quick even prime in all of the cylinders (prior owner had setup a single choke).

Now to ship the engine to Adrian at CH for an ignition upgrade and get rid of the 3 individual ignition boxes. Should provide a slight weight advantage, take up less space and be easier to replace/repair if ever needed.

Nice little quality of life update there, Much simpler choke setup, Something that should be factory done

Yeah the single CDI box will be perfect. I wonder if he will setup a different curve or timing versus the stock setup.

He’s going to “experiment” with mine in order to have a turnkey kit for the Roto’s. I would welcome some tweaking if it provides better performance/reliability.

To minimize adding any weight to the tail, I built a battery platform to mount two Powerbox Power Pak 5000 Pro batteries. I plan to move the rudder servo to the tail behind the batteries and any addition ballast that may be needed will be added to the stab tube

I did get chance to mock up the rear retract and make a template to use the existing mounting points with the robart gear. Yes, I need to ditch the crappy wheel!!

I wouldn’t have mentioned this except that you asked: No. just…no.
