It's about the size of 2 football fields side by side, and with the various obstacles, it feels like flying in a soup bowl.

I managed to put about 30 minutes of flying on it without mishap, mainly getting the engine tuned up. It was a tad nose heavy, so I moved the receiver batts back from right behind the wing tube, to the rear edge of the receiver tray, and it's damn near perfect now. I went with the recommended throws and expo. It felt mushy with the recommended 35% expo, so I reduced it to 25%, which is much better. I might even take a little more out. Other than a click of elevator trim due to the nose heaviness, it didn't need anything else. Flies like it's on rails and rolls like it's on a drill bit.

After the maiden flights, before I even pulled out of the parking lot, I called the owner of another local field and asked to join, and have spent the last few weeks waiting for the monsoon to let up so I could meet the guy and officially be let into the club. The weather finally cooperated long enough yesterday to get a flight in at the new field, which is like Zanadu, in comparsion. The bonus is it's about half the drive time from my house.

The setup is:

DLE 111 27x10 Xoar laminated prop. I've got a Mejzic 28-10 Evo for it, but wanted to fly it with a cheaper prop for the first few flights and a little less load for the initial break in. 2700 MAH 5 cell nimh ignition batt.

Airtronics SD10GS tx, 92104 10 channel rx.

Savox 1270Ts on all surfaces but throttle, which is a Hitec 5645 MG.

SWB Servo arms.

SWB Self adjusting X2 rudder tray.

Smart Fly Competition 12 with opto kill and fail safe.

Dual 2500 LIFE receiver batts.

32 oz Fiji 3 line tank conversion.

Overall, I am very happy with the airplane and setup. I flew pattern in the early '80's, but now I am strictly a sport flyer, and don't do much 3D but I enjoy flying responsive, aerobatic airplanes. This airplane fills the everyday flyer niche nicely, although I think I need a bigger truck!
Looks awesome! Love the look of the 55. Congrats on the field. Good news like that is welcomed these days.

Good looking bird you have there!
Glad you had a good maiden and found a field to suit.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread.....

I had to do a repair on my Yak55M, and need to know what color/make of the blue covering. Earlier in the thread, Bill H said it was Insignia Blue monokote, so I bought a few rolls. It is not even a close match for the blue on my bird. Has anyone had to replace any of the covering on this plane?

Pics of my scheme are in post #1455

I know this is an old thread. Does anyone know if one servo (400oz) is enough for each aileron rather than using two? I am finally getting around to putting this plane together. Any advice would be great. Also, does anyone have a link to the manual? It is the 100cc version and I have a brand new DLE120 I will be mounting on the plane. Thanks again.
