Question
Quadra 75/3W 85 Twin

Need help from the experts. I am looking to buy a plane (Stearman...I believe 1/4 scale) from a friend that has a Quadra 75 in it. I have access to a good deal on a 3W 85 Twin.

Trying to find out which is more powerful.

Thanks.

Dennis

The 3w 85 will have more power for an aerobatic or sport plane type of application.

Agree! The Q75 is a good old engine but is pretty well maxed out with a 24-10 prop. I'm sure the 85 will far exceed that. I've flown the Q75 quite a bit both in aerobatic planes and in a warbird and it is most at home in the warbird where it pretty much stays wound up most of the time. It just doesn't have the low and mid-range torque the more modern engines have. After all, it was designed to cut trees.
