Airventure 2015, Oshkosh, WI

For those attending Oshkosh next week come by Pioneer airport and take a ride in the Bell 47's. This is a great way to see the airport and fly in one of the best helicopters ever made. All of the workers and pilots volunteer their time.

I'll be flying them all week. On a couple of the days I'll have my Team Futaba shirt on so I won't be hard to spot. Fun stuff.

AirVunture and the Triple Tree Youth Masters IMAC training are at the same time. Obviously the Oshkosh show is the aviation giant but it is unfortunate that our young aviators have to chose one or the other.

Are you the "guy" that gets everybody in line over Lake Parker at Sun-N-Fun?

The Oshkosh controllers are awesome! They are so polite and calm for how much traffic they have to handle. We were told to hit the green dot to start with and changed it to the numbers on us. Well the plane behind us was going for the green dot and we were able to sit it down around the orange dot, but the controllers kept calm and got us both on the ground safely. I am unsure if I heard wrong to begin with. We were both Cessnas and the only difference was red and white and I may have missed the color. But at no time did I felt scared or not comfortable.

Yes we get them "in line" at Lake Parker. Specifically at OSH...if we the controllers arent calm then the pilots arent calm and causes the pilots to question instructions and not focus on the operation....plus Airventure is for the pilots....not the controllers.

We try our best to make the pilots feel comfortable, welcome, and appreciated.

But, there is "THE GUY", kind of like the good cop, bad cop routine that comes on air and re-enforces the NOTAM.

At times yes...mainly with IFR departures and airfield closures. Other times it's education. We try nor to bark at the pilots

I wish I would have known you were a controller, I would have stopped by. My camper roommate is a Tracon operator at the LA facility. He retires in Sept. I would have loved to get a tour. NEXT YEAR!!!

FYI, I was in the air flying the Bell 47 when the Malibu crashed. I didn't see the actual impact but saw the fire start. Scary deal.

You guys do a great job. I've flown my RV 7 in many times. I did notice that there were more go arounds this year than in days past. Many pilots just don't follow instructions. I'd say most go arounds were caused by people not getting off the runway!!

Thanks for your work. It is also my vacation but I have to get back to work to rest
