Are you referring to paint prep? I don't paint. But I do get the fiberglass work primed and finished as much as possible. I use a good automotive primer, and use glazing putty for and pin holes then re-prime and sand. When I glass the hatch's I will go into detail on what I'm using.

Yes there is always some filler on a plane. Hand selected balsa is light and can dent. Usually if I ding the wood I put a drop of water on it and it will almost expand back when it drys then a little filler if necessary.

Thats a neat trick, Thanks for that. About to start my EMHW Bellanca XXL and has not much sheeting but im sure there will be a gap or a non flush part that ill need to fill.

My apologies, I did mean prep. Sounds like your doing it about like most. I usually leave the physical color and clear for last, will prime it, and fill until I am happy. I use Upol Dolphin Glaze for pin holes and filling, I was turned on to Dolphin Glaze about two years ago and have used it exclusively for fiberglass parts and as part of glassing the hatch process the Dolphin Glaze is extremely light weight and sands very easy. I have always done my own finish painting and it is usually the last part of the building phase for me.

I will follow this build thread through to the end and I'm interested in how well it performs in the air. I would love to build one for myself and see how the IMAC crowd reacts because I do have a customer that inquired about a 42-43% 330 that he wants me to build for him. Time will tell keep up the good work.

Brian

Balsa

We have been getting some folks who call and asked a few questions especially on wood. We use all hand select balsa sheeting from light grades to med grades. We have our vendor pick the wood to our specifications.
