the da is not enough - you need atleast the 58!!! and take the mvvs prosport 58 its a marvelous engine but it also takes time to break in, like the 3w's

Re: hallo from italy with trouble mvvs or da?

Hello Adrian,

I picked up the MVVS 58 Prosport awhile back ....

Any specific break-in procedure or steps that I need to be aware of once I find a plane to put it in (gasoline octane level, break-in oil, prop...the usual)??

Thanks,

Bill

hi bill - well you need to be a little patient with the break in - these engines have tight tolerences and need to be broken in properly to ensure best result - break in for 3-5 hours at 2500 rpm with a 32 to 1 oil or 3% oil to gas - oil normally supplied - it is mobil 1 synthetic -gas should be pump premuim - prop no bigger than 24 x 10 - then start to set needles for max rpm - you can use any synthetic 2 stroke oil like motul 800 or whatever you guys have. then fly the plane at half for a few hours to get good cooling - then set the needles for final max rpm and good transition - fly it hard and all will be well - enjoy!!! great engine!!
then test prop like 26 x 8 as it seems to be the best for 3d and imac - i have the cannister muffler as well - running about 6600 with a bolly wood 24x10 - awsome power on a 17.5lbs plane

I think a Evolution (MVVS) 58CC will be fine...
The DA is any longer easy than the MVVS but the DA is weak any longer.

Hi Lillo,

It's great to have you here!!

I don't have any experience with the MVVS engine, so I can't be of any help.

One thing I can do is move this thread to the engines forum, this will give you much more exposure for some additional info to help you make your choice.

Welcome to the Giants!!!

I have the Evoloution 58. Do we want to allways run the oil at 40:1 ? The DA guys run 50:1 or 100:1.

tonneau, the claimed weight for your plane is 20-22lbs. The DA50 will give you about 26-30lbs of thrust only, while the 58 is capable of 40lbs thrust, which is better for 3D flying. Plus as your in europe, support for MVVS will be easier than DA I think, as I face this same issue here in Malaysia. ANd you will love the new ignition system, as you wont have to choke manually or by radio, just flick and it starts, lovely low idle, and tons of top end power.

Madd Dawg, from what I know, the guys running 100:1 are using a particular type of oil from amsoil, which is designed to be mixed at 100:1.

But if you refer to the MVVS page from the netherlands dealer, he explains why its better to run 40:1 or even 30:1.

www.mvvs.nl

I personally prefer to run the higher oil content to ensure protection for the engine. My DA-50, was taching 7250 with a menzs 22x8 prop and 7500 with a Bolly carbon 22x8 while on 30:1 mix with lawnboy ashless, which is close to the peak for this engine. I don't think you will see any major power increase by going 50:1 or even 100:1.

Or you could get a DA 85 when they are released soon, The 2.3 Extra would make an awesome combination with this engine.
