34.4 lbs total weight for a %40 ?!?!? Now, I'm not saying I don't believe it, but they say bigfoot is out there, and they have pictures of his hairy ass! Where is your pics?!?!?! Congrats!! How close is your Yak's to Krills? [Besides being made of wood], they have a similar looking canopy as well as a fat airfoil on the rudder and elevator. Can't wait till Mike, or one of his brothers is flying one down here sooner than later!

Hey Bill how would you you compare the snap characteristics to the 3W yak you used to fly.

Well...... the 3W Yak is a great airplane but my new Yak snaps GREAT!! I hope some other non-biased people can comment on how the snaps looked at the Tucson Imac contest I was at last wekend. The airplane is flying great and the snaps are fast and precise. Each wing panel of my airplane weighs 3.0 pounds each, this is super light and there is minimal mass in the wings. Rotation and the ability to stop that rotation is instant. I love it.

Bill.. do you have any video yet?

I would particularly like to see really high alhpa harrier rolls... upright and inverted harriers, high Beta KE left and right and vertical upline snaps....

IMHO, these few maneuvers can tell alot about a plane....

thanks... I love YAK 55's!!

Re: 40% 118" Yak 55 (Hempel)

High alpha rolling harrier doesn't tell much IMHO as any plane can be made to look well. Inverted harriers don't do much either as most planes (even the ones with bad wing rocking in upright harrier usually don't have much / if any rock in inverted harrier).

Upright harrier on the other hand, tells me much about the plane, as is tumbling maneuvers.

High Beta KE can be quite telling, but it is also pilot dependent.

I have had planes that did upright harriers great and sucked inverted (Ultimate, ZN-Line) and planes that were OK inverted and sucked upright (Su29).... seeing both shows that both are good... (Super Extra, GP38% Extra)

Andy, I'm not sure if it's just Billy's thumbs, but I can attest that he has his plane snapping very nicely, impressively, in fact. It breaks crisp, shows good autorotation, and doesn't drift off track. I was flying my buddy's Krill and couldn't get it to snap as good as billy's plane...
Like I said, Billy's got thumbs, but it just looked like the plane flew precision really well.

I was also at the contest this weekend and I can say that everything Billy is telling you is true. We were all very interested to see how the new Hempel Yak 55 would perform and I think we were all equally impressed. Tracking was solid, snaps were awesome, rolls were very axial, and the plane presented very well. And after seeing the vertical lines I didn't doubt the scale reading at all! Of course Billy's thumbs didn't hurt anything but the plane is definitely a winner. I can't wait to see what Billy does with is with a little more practice!!

Once you add a 2nd wing, all bets are off on their inverted vs upright harrier performance. But we're talking about a mono here, and I've yet to see a mono that will do inverted harrier worse than upright.

One would think a DA120 piped would be the Trick setup on this plane
Or a BME 150 piped....or better a BME116
Either one, and you drop another 2-3lbs
You would need Carbon pipes though...
add some TI-axels and a few other goodies and you are Rippin hard core on either one of those engines...

Someone should try it!...
