Making a canopy out of lexan

Has anyone tried to mold a canopy from a sheet of lexan. I can't find a replacement canopy for my 3DHS 91" Yak-55m so I was thinking I might give it a try. I know if it is real thin you can use a heat gun to make it form over a mold. Just wondering if anyone has tried this.---Smitty

I make them but not with a heat gun nor with Lexan. I made an oven out of insulation board and a smoker element, a vac table, and use a shop vac for suction. I prefer PTEG as it is easier to work with and does not crack as bad as Lexan.

Your real issue will be size,,, A canopy that size would require a machine and sheet of plastic bigger than would fit in your oven,,

You'd have to make a plug for the clear part,, then make the rest of the hatch out of balsa/ply/covering

This would take some pretty advanced building skill

Not really. On my last one I used the original canopy taped together then filled with plaster of Paris. The vac table is 24" x 24" and the insulation oven sized the same. I made a wood frame that bolts together to hold the PTEG and sets on the heating box, it does require flipping during heating to get the plastic hot evenly. Then quickly setting it on the plug on the table with the shop vac on. I will say one 4' x 8' sheet of PTEG at about ninety bucks only yielded one quality canopy. Just don't do it often enough to be real proficient at it, but it can be done. Below are the only pics I have and was the first time I did it.

Well,, his is a different shape and,, just guessing that it might be too long to pull in one piece in a common size oven,, I could be wrong,,
