Smoke Nipple Installation?

Need help.

Trying to install smoke nipples on my DA70 wiht JTech mufflers. The mufflers have a designated spot to drill out for the nipples, which I did. However, I quickly learned that aluminum doesn't braise.

Thought about tapping it and just using a grease fitting but grease fittings have a ball bearing and spring which would not be good in the long run for my Sullivan smoke pump.

So now I have drilled mufflers with now way to install the nipples.

Any advice? Big regional fly-in this weekend that I would really like to attend...with smoke

How large did you drill the hole ?
JTech mufflers... cheap crap , why did you not opt for the small pro flows ?

I use Dura-fix to join aluminum. You could use it in place of braising to nipples. Check it out on Durafix.com

Update.... The Sullivan Skywriter Smoke system comes with non threaded smoke nipples that require a 1/4" hole to be drilled in the muffler. Then you either TIG weld them, or use an aluminum braising rod, neither of which I had access to.

The 1/4" holes I drilled are too large for any threaded pressure fitting so my mufflers are shot. I gave up and ordered two new Slimline mufflers from Desert Aircraft with built in smoke nipples so that I can fly this weekend.

Expensive lesson learned the hard way.

I made the smoke injectors that are shown in the video, they work great. you need to get the smoke oil delivered to the heat of the muffler in the thinest stream not just dumping in.
