NX8 Transmitter and Spektrum ar9000 receiver

I have successfully bound my new NX8 transmitter to my older Spektrum ar9000 dsm2 receivers. The problem is, when I power the transmitter on first, then the receivers, as I should, the receiver lights flash. When I power the receivers on first, then the transmitter, the lights come on solid, as they should. Horizon support told me all my receivers are bad and I should buy new ones or send them in for repair. Does anyone have thoughts on this?

Sam, I would suggest that you post the same question on RCG under the radio section. Spektrum is supported by Andy Kunz and he does a great job. you are using an older receiver with an outdated protocol - DSM 2 as opposed to DSMX. Horizon will not fix an older receiver assuming there is something wrong with it, which there probably isn't. I seem to remember this coming up recently and Andy commenting it was normal with the newer radios but i would talk to him first, or buy a more recent receiver. There are a lot of features on the NX 8. Good luck.

I have zero faith in what you were told by Horizon tech support. One, bad receivers are extremely rare, and two, Horizon does not "fix" receivers. They replace them when possible.

Yep Andy should be able to provide you with the full answer.

Pretty sure you will find nothing wrong with your DSM2 receivers.

The flashing is part of their software brownout detection fetaure but there may be some weird incompatability going on with the NX8 which is confusing the brownout detection feature.

Be curious to cycle the power again on the rx in your second example (leave tx on) after the lights are solid to see if they then flash.

Yes, the lights flash when power to the receiver is cycled.

Good - I'd say there is just a minor inconsistency in the way the NX8 Tx data is interpreted by the DSM2 receivers when first switched on and thereby causes them to flash when first turning on the Tx and then the Rx.

But let Andy reply to confirm.

The slow blink indicates that the DSM2 receiver

a) lost power while working with an old Cypress-based transmitter, or

b) is bound to a new TI-based transmitter. It ALWAYS blinks after the initial power-cycle with these.

So, can I assume it's safe to fly with the receiver flashing? If so, shouldn't Horizon support know this?

Yes safe to fly....

Probably too technical of a question for their 'support group'.
