Help!
Extreme Flight Extra 78" Engine setup

Hi everyone,

Iīm planning my transition from 10s to 12s in my extra 78", which is featuring an Axi 5325/24 232Kv now . My question is regarding these two engines, as Iīm lacking of expertise in electric engines

https://extremeflightrc.com/Xpwr-40CC-Motor_p_2445.html

http://en.dualsky.com/motor/20190827dav4.shtml

I know from what I have read that the XPWR pulls the plane like a rocket and should be the way to go for the Extra 78 ".

On the other hand, Dualski has released its new V4 version of the DA series. I am really considering getting the DA 28 with 180kv as it weighs way less. The power is also a bit less and they are meant for F3A (I do not really understand what the real difference is).

From your knowledgeable point of view, is it worth it? Maybe I am completely mistaken and the engine is not suitable for the extra (at least not nearly comparable to the XPWR 40 cc)

My style of flying is 3D combined with IMAC

Any other suggestion is also welcomed!!!

Thank you in advanced

Jose

Jose,
The XPWR35 and XPWR40 both do a great job with powering the V3 Extra. I like the XPWR35 on the latest generation Xtra to keep it light.

As far as Dualksy motors, the GA series is much more appropriate to 3D airplanes. The GA4000 would be he match for the 78 Xtra. I don't have any experience with the GA4000 but I do have three GA6000 (70cc equivalent) motor running with great success.

Hi suds,

Thank you a lot for your comments, I really appreciate them!

I have just looked at the GA series and makes more sense to me.
It seems that these kind of motors designed for 3D airplanes are a bit heavier than the F3A versions (maybe they are manufactured in a way which is better for smoother style of flying, I donīt really know...).

I think I will go with the GA 4000 series as it looks like the closest alternative to the XPWR.

Also and having the thread open, have you have any idea of how much are your planes weighting with 12s?

Mine is running 10s (Zippy 5000mah ) and the engine (above mentioned) is around 600grams, so the gross weight of the plane is 6 kgs, which I think is a bit heavy for the 10s setup.

Thank you in advance

Jose

Jose,
I haven't weighed my 78" V3. It certainly is lighter than my former V2 78" Extra but I do not have a number. It flies great with 12S-4000 and 12S-4500.

Thank you suds,

Definitively the V3 is much lighter than V2. However I would like to keep it as light as possible., around the 11,5-13 lbs specified by EF.

Letīs see how can I save at least 200grms to keep it in its weight!

Thank you again

Jose

Hi again guys,

Going back to the thread, I was thinking about using the Dualsky Ga 4000 + HW Platinum HV 130A V4. Does anyone know if this combo runs great? I have heard some people had compatibility issues with XPWR motors, but I am not sure about Dualsky.

Thank you in advance

Jose
