Apogee "Magnum" Lithium-Manganse experiences?

Hello,

I didn't find anything with the search feature here, so I thought I'd ask:

Have any of you used the newer chemistry Apogee Magnum LiMn batteries? These are touted as "safe" Lipoly packs which do not turn into flying juicy fruit napalm bombs when shorted out, but just slowly smolder. (Ok, Iím being dramatic. . .itís past my bedtime. . .)

I'm not terribly worried about my conventional Lipos, but on paper these appear to have the performance of conventional packs, with an added measure of safety (which the rest of my household would appreciate). If that is in fact the case, and if they have a similar lifespan, there isn't anything to lose!

They're lower energy density. (They're heavier than comparable size lipolys).

Anyone have an opinion regarding these? A little pricey at this point in low-rate production, but the energy densities don't look all that bad to me ... am I all wet?

Apogee packs seem a lot cheaper than the duralites.....I need to replace some older Li-ION packs.....so any feedback on the apogees is much appreaciated from me as well.
