Another half day in the shop and got a fair amount done. Got the backbone in and it's amazingly straight!! Charlie says to run 2 straight 2x4's down both sides of the jigs but the problem with that these days is finding any straight 2x4's. The picture looking from the front and back look like a very slight curve but I think that's an opticle illusion. It's as straight as it gets. Spent most of the day putting in the floorboards. That really keeps things straight. All of the pieces snap in and interlock with each other. Had to do a little trimming on the instrument panel to get it in and the bottom attached floorboard also.

After my last post I had to pull it apart again and put in all the balsa blocks for the tubing. Got all of that in and letting it set up right now. I'll get a couple of pictures of that. Hope the crappie are biting because I'm fishing for the next couple of days.

Spent this afternoon in the shop working on the attach points for the two fuselage halves. Braced the tubes with blocks of 1/2" balsa glued to the formers but not to the tubes yet. Once I get everythig square and braced I'll glue the tubes to the braces. Should make for a nice fit.

One of the two Howard's was at Oshkosh this year and I was able to talk to the owner (he owns both of the flying Howard's). This one he said was basically his family "wagon" they use it to go camping and such, the other one is mostly used for corporate chartering. Here is a few pic's I took, the problem in getting good photos that day was that it was parked right next to the active and you could not go out in front and take some photos. But I really liked this aircraft and it was the first time to see one in person.....it has great lines and is really cool in my book.
Good luck with your project...

Tom

on the real airplane, imagine how close the fuselage gets to the ground. makes you wonder if it can touch on a hard landing.

No problem with the fuselage touching on the runway. We used to take ours to Piedmont Airlines for maint. The shop was on the opposite side of a public street from the runway. Due to the dome shape of the street , the belly would get to about 1/2" from the pavement but never hit. You did have to taxi REAL slow !!

Here's a couple of shots of what I've been working on for the past couple of days. This is the wing root that is glued to the fuselage and then the wing mates with it. Had some problem with it not interlocking like it should so I've been working on it with the Dremel !!
