It looks like the wings are actually swept forward. That is some serious speed.

Those engines are called A^3 (A Cubed). I picked one up on RCU not long ago (a 140cc) because the price was good. I never did run it and just sold it locally a couple of weeks ago. I believe they use Sachs cylinders and machined from billet crank case. It was a very nice piece of work. They like to turn fast to develop their power (7k+ likely).

Although the plane looks cool and all, I dont think its hitting 250. Maybe being on film takes the effect away but when your there in person and see an actually 220-250 mph pass its much faster. I always loved the pawn racer.

Maybe some of the USRA boys can jump in here. Looks and sounds like they are running alcohol at minimum like the unlimited engines.

Re: 250 mph Pond Racer Video

I don't know any exact details of this model but those engines are A-cubed for sure like DKJens mentioned. There was a time when these motors were pretty hot in USRA Unlimited racing but the only one I've seen in the past couple of years was on one of Keith Koeppels NA-50's. And since they were used in UL, they certainly used alcohol fuel. So I assume this Pond Racer does too.

Maybe some of our left coast USRA guys have seen this bird around and can give more specific details.

FYI- Years ago, I was at Scaled Composites (Burt Rutans "skunk works") and was taken into the hanger to see the full-scale Pond Racer. All I can say is that the hair stood up on my arms! That thing just "oozed" speed! Burt had designed it for a man named Bob(?) Pond as a Reno Unlimited racer (in the advent of aging warbirds that won't last forever). It had some turbocharged Nissan GTP race car engines as I recall. It flew at Reno but never got up to its true potential due to some engine-related issues. And, unfortunately, it utlimately crashed, killing the pilot. Again that was reported to be due to engine problems that led to an off-field landing.

What a cool plane it was....and the model does it justice!

You can see on the video that the engines have glow plugs installed, so definetely running glow. The A Cubed engine I had, had a single carb. crank case reed intake set-up and CH ignition.
Here are a couple of Pond Racer photos I had on my PC, Hello Dolly!!!!!!!!!!!

Very cool, and quick, doubting 250 myself. I saw a person at a jet rally accidentally break 212, and she was a honkin' now...
