40% Super Chipmunk - Hostetler

Barry Finck spotted this plane at the National Balsa display at Toledo, and then we saw the display model at Joe Nall. After speaking with Eric and Heather of National Balsa, we purchased the kit, the canopy (in stock at The Nall), and ordered the fiberglass parts, as well as the Sierra-built landing gear. Being rained out, we picked up the kit on our way out of the Triple Tree property, and commenced opening the kit and starting to lay out some parts today. The bench we have is 15' long, and this build will take up every inch.

We will post photos as we go. Cris Finck is the builder. Barry Finck will be participating in the build as well....and I'll be the guy who cleans up at night and keeps the guys stocked with snacks. Here we go...

We don’t have the landing gear yet. That’s coming from Sierra.

The wing is a 3-piece format.

What are these kits selling for? I haven’t seen a price yet but I am going to have to have one of these!

HI Dennis -

The short kit is $625
The plans are $95
The canopy is $110
The cowling is $180

I did not yet receive my receipt for the gear or the wheel pants & strut covers.

The wood in this kit is excellent!

Customer Service!!!

The fiberglass tubes for the stab section arrived today, and we had a few technical questions on this build, and we called Wendell Hosteler. What a pro and a gentleman. He spent time on the phone to discuss everything and gave us some great guidance.

There are going to be a few quick adjustments and "fixes" to the plans. We will post everything for all to see as we go through them. Please remember we are building the 40% version. So, anything we post should be considered as good guidance, but might need some very slight edits for the 30% version, if you choose to go that route.
