Battery voltage?

Alrighty...lately I was having some really ****ty times on a battery in my profile katana so I was going to swap it for this 6v 1800mah nimh i got laying around, now I was cycling the battery tonight (actually i am as i type this) and when I charge it and put it on the voltmeter its in the green or the 'good to go' area and then after a while it goes into the white or the 'fly at your own risk' area...but the 'fly at your own risk' area is from 6v-6.4 volts and i noticed it stays in the white area for a long time.

It's on a 40size profile with
-standard futaba rx (8ch i believe)
-4 high torque 9010 futaba servos (none digital)
-hs81 on throttle

So basically I was wondering if its okay to fly aslong as the battery is above 6v, or what would be a dangerous battery level to fly at. I really dont want to crash this because of the battery, would rather crash flying hard 'cause this my only RTF plane right now

Thanks in advance.

Re: Battery voltage?

If it is showing it still holds 1800 in capacity when you cycle it & you know the history of the pack (ie no bad crashes) shoud be ok.
Still battery's are cheap compared to replacing an airframe.

Yeah its true haha, but this 6v pack is the pack i just put in, the bad one was a 4.8v pack...so basically im just wondering if its okay to fly at 6v-6.4v because it holds a charge in that range for a long time.

Re: Battery voltage?

If the cells arent dented & it wasnt a 100G crash could be okay. Just that 6v packs seem to drop off real quick once below 1v/cell or 5volts. Maybe do a cruisey flight then check the pack. I just use a Novatech battery checker & it seems fairly accurate.

Re: Battery voltage?

a 6V NIMH battery when is fully charged show a voltage in range of 6.7-7v but after first use it does drop pretty fast to 6.2-6.3V and stays there for a long time. I would say you can fly as long as you are 6 and above under load. To be on the safe side once it drops below 6.1 under load, charge the battery. You are fine the way you are describing the battery performance. Good Luck

Re: Battery voltage?

from my experience, as long as the battery is above 6.0V its fine, i have landed at 5.8V with no problems... but i wouldn't risk it more than that!!

Re: Battery voltage?

Awesome thanks a bunch guys for the answers, and yeah it was under load voltage.

I took it to the field and fast charged as soon as i got there (didnt charge over night or anything) and then flew a good 5 long flights and the batt was holding up strong.

Thanks
