The Piaggo is a triple surface aircraft. It has a small canard, but also has a conventional tail surface on the vertical fin/rudder. Much smaller than the Starship, but faster on 1/3 less horsepower. It also carries more passengers than the Starship. It's an amazingly efficient aircraft for a turboprop as well, getting an average .85 NM per pound of fuel, more than double similar corporate jet aircraft. |

OMG!!! 5 hours on a Pred B Sim??? How do you stay awake!!! :O lol Quote:
I used to tell people that other than a Piaggio costing less, carrying more, going faster, better fuel economy... it is exactly like a starship! lol I heard they were cutting'em up because their Insurance Companies Lawyers told'em too... but that is like 3rd or 4th hand info..... Yes.. a canard is rather stupid..... Burt did a lot of amazing things in spite of the fact he utilized canards.... In order to be stable.. the front wing is just to heavily loaded.... can't get the main wing to a high near stall AOA so takeoff anf landing uses too much runway.... I have 3 hours on a Gnat 750!! he he he he |

Thought about the full scale thing and took an introductgory flight. First the instructor fussed at me for trying to bank more than 30 degrees. "You nose is too low! Your nose is too high!" "Level your wings!" I assumed inverted flight would be frowned on so I avoided that.
So apparently you can't go right into an Extra and fly aerobatics it seems. Then ya gotta learn navigation (why if I have GPS)....and avionics (want to fly 'em, not build 'em), and radio communications ("I'm landing please get out of the way"), blah, blah. So guess I stay with two sticks and a couple switches...... I do respect the heck out of those that do full scale though. They're heroes to me....well most of them. |

You should have had my instructor. He was very relaxed, said he wasn't worried at all, that he wouldn't let me hurt us. If I went ahead with more lessons this guy would be my instructor. He was great. Never scolded me for my bad flying.

Dan,
Hows that new Futaba 750 gyro working? Yelling at you on a familiarization ride????????????????????????? Sounds like the line captain that give me IOE once..what an ass! I haven't updated my log book in 3 years:0) You know your happy were you are when that happens! For you guys starting out and dreams of the airlines, just know that the golden days are over...I never thought I'd see the day that fractional and corporate were (to some degree I hope) more stable than the airlines..Don't get me wrong, alot of my friends are there and very happy..it just wasn't my cup of tea. Work hard, be safe, and if you're luck..ie..right spot, at right time, a good guy in charge will give you a chance like I was given...also, don't forget to network..enough can't be said for that!!
